Two developments published this month are drawing a clearer line between B2B marketing teams that outperform and those that don't. Anteriad's fifth annual benchmark, fielded across 631 marketing decision-makers in the US, UK, and APAC, identifies the specific practices that correlate with beating targets. And a new strategic partnership between Marketbridge and Meltwater is extending that playbook into territory most GTM teams haven't mapped yet: how AI-driven search systems perceive and surface a brand during the buying journey.

Data discipline, not data volume, is the differentiator

Anteriad's 2026 report, titled "The 2026 B2B Marketing Edge: Control Is the Competitive Advantage" and conducted in partnership with Ascend2, finds that so-called Data Heroes, marketers who prioritize a strong first-party data foundation, are 43% likely to significantly exceed their primary goals, compared to just 18% for the broader respondent pool, according to Demand Gen Report's coverage of the findings. That's a gap wide enough to reframe the data conversation from IT infrastructure to competitive strategy.

Full-funnel attribution tells a similar story. Marketers who prioritize attribution across the entire funnel significantly exceeded their primary marketing goals at a rate of 45%, versus 24% for those who don't, per Anteriad. Campaign agility compounds the advantage: 41% of B2B marketers reported frequently reallocating spend based on real-time performance data, and those who lack that flexibility cite slow approvals, platform limitations, and the absence of live data as barriers.

Control over data, measurement, and audience strategy isn't a marketing ambition in 2026, it's the measurable gap between teams that hit their numbers and teams that don't.

Lynn Tornabene, Chief Marketing and Product Officer at Anteriad, described five years of research as pointing consistently toward the same pattern, with the 2026 edition showing it more sharply than any prior year, according to Demand Gen Report. The implication for marketing operations leaders is direct: the practices that separate top performers are implementable, not structural accidents.

Buying groups and CFO alignment close the revenue loop

Buying group adoption is becoming a separating factor. Anteriad's data shows 38% of respondents have fully implemented buying group strategies, and that cohort reported stronger marketing-and-sales alignment, higher win rates, and improved conversion from opportunity to closed revenue. For revenue operations teams still running single-contact demand gen models, that figure represents both a gap and a benchmark.

The report also introduces a finding Anteriad is tracking for the first time: the title of the executive a CMO reports to shapes KPI choices, data strategies, and overall marketing performance. CFO misalignment specifically carries a measurable cost. According to Anteriad, 39% of marketers facing that misalignment deal with increased spend scrutiny, 36% see their budgets cut, and 35% experience delays in launching strategic initiatives. For any VP of marketing preparing a budget cycle, those numbers make the case for proactive CFO engagement before proposals hit the table, not after.

GEO enters the GTM stack

While Anteriad's report focuses on the first-party and measurement side of B2B performance, the Marketbridge-Meltwater partnership announced July 28 addresses a blind spot that most martech stacks don't yet cover: generative engine optimization, or GEO. As AI systems including ChatGPT and Claude increasingly mediate early-stage research in the buying journey, which brands those systems surface, and how positively they describe them, is becoming a channel in its own right.

Marketbridge, a B2B growth advisory firm, is positioning itself as the first B2B marketing solutions provider to combine its own first-party GTM data with Meltwater's third-party narrative intelligence, according to Demand Gen Report. Under the arrangement, Meltwater supplies the narrative and GEO intelligence layer, while Marketbridge integrates it into strategy, content, and custom system development for its clients and for Meltwater's existing customer base.

Geoffrey Sidari, Marketbridge's Chief Innovation Officer and Head of AI, framed the operational rationale in terms of what brands can now see across their data sources: Salesforce records, call telemetry, and third-party narrative signals can be combined to understand what prospects are asking both humans and AI systems, then turned into content and channel strategy. Mark Arduino, Partner Director of Agency and Consulting at Meltwater, noted that the underlying data is increasingly valuable across sales, product, and leadership functions, not just communications, as reported by Demand Gen Report.

If a GTM team doesn't know how AI systems describe their brand, it's operating with a gap in its channel map that its competitors may already be closing.

The convergence point for enterprise marketing operations

Read together, Anteriad's benchmark and the Marketbridge-Meltwater partnership point toward the same operational conclusion. The B2B teams posting the strongest results in 2026 are those that have connected their data worlds: first-party engagement data, full-funnel attribution, buying-group signals, and now the third-party narrative layer that determines brand visibility in AI-assisted research. Teams still managing these as separate functions are carrying a structural disadvantage that the numbers now quantify.

For marketing operations and demand generation leaders, the near-term action is concrete. Anteriad's data offers a self-assessment framework: where does your team sit on data maturity, buying-group implementation, attribution coverage, and CFO relationship? For teams that clear those bars, the Marketbridge-Meltwater integration suggests the next frontier is GEO visibility, which is not yet a standard line item in most GTM plans but is already influencing which vendors make it into AI-generated shortlists.
