USB Type C – A New Technology for Power Delivery and Data

USB Type C, usually referred to as just USB-C, is piloting a new era for delivering power and transmitting data to and from electronic devices. Because the USB-C plug is symmetrical, it can be inserted either way, eliminating the frustrations of earlier USB ports.

USB Type C is much more than just a different connector, it has defined power standards known as the Power Delivery Specifications, which define the amount of current to 5,9,15 and 20 volts. USB Type C devices communicate directly to the charger to control the amount of power provided. The ability to supply more power to PED’s and laptops provides much more flexibility than traditional USB Type A.

USB Type C can also transmit data at the same time as the power function is being utilized. Data transition speeds compliant with USB 2.0 standards are available. USB-C data and power capacity varies by the manufacturer.

Mid Continent Controls’ USB-C charger supports charging with a maximum capability of up to 45 watts. The charger can deliver 5, 9 and 15 volts and up to 3 amps of current. Device driven monitoring and adjustment of the current provides the ability for Rapid/Quick charge without over charging or causing damage. Our USB-C charger also supports USB Type A devices at a maximum of 5 volts at 3 amps.

While using the USB-C charger, a compatible device can simultaneously transmit data at USB 2.0 speeds. Mid Continent Controls has USB-C ports available in a variety of finishes and can also create custom ports for specific requirements.
