Meindl is also an award-winning director, writer, actor, acting coach, entrepreneur, author and inspirational speaker.

The duo talked about acting, queerness and taking risks.

Acting can be used as a tool and training for other areas of life, such as giving a presentation to a large audience. His philosophy emphasizes “giving in to the chaos” of life and acting and that making mistakes is a part of life. He elaborated that part of growth and creativity comes from taking risks.

“As a little gay boy growing up in Indiana, a big risk was, ‘I gotta get the heck outta here,’” Meindl said.

Leaving that small town was the right choice for Meindl, and he feels that part of stepping out of that town into a different world and creating something he hadn’t seen before.

So, after he left, he traversed from Los Angeles to New York to London and finally back to LA. Part of that philosophy applies to his art, which mimics his life, and he tries to apply those lessons to those he teaches.

“A lot of people who study with me aren’t just actors. They’re people through all walks of lives who want to explore themselves a little bit more,” Meindl said. “Acting is an amazing tool to help people discover themselves.”
