A variation creates a separate deliverable from an existing video. Use it when you need a different aspect ratio, duration or presentation while retaining the original.
Before you start
Open the source video in Media Studio. Know its intended destination, required aspect ratio and whether you need the full video or only a time range.
Steps
Step 1. Choose Request Variation. Select Resize for a different-sized version of the video, or Social clip for a shorter excerpt.
Step 2. For Resize, choose Landscape 16:9 (1920×1080), Portrait 9:16 (1080×1920), Square 1:1, Vertical feed 4:5, or Other size. For Other size, enter the required Width and Height in pixels.
Step 3. For Social clip, choose a Suggested moment or enter From and To as MM:SS or HH:MM:SS. The end must follow the start and stay within the source duration. Use Preview clip to check the range.
Step 4. Choose the Format. Set Intro, Outro and Add captions deliberately. If adding captions, check the caption style reference.
Step 5. Choose a Style reference such as the intended Brand Book or Saved Order when needed. Add Editor notes describing framing, on-screen text or elements that must remain visible.
Step 6. Review the settings and submit Request variation. For a simple original-format range with no added branding, captions, intro/outro or editor notes, Studio may instead offer Create clip.
Step 7. Open the resulting variation or, for an automatic clip, reopen Request Variation to check progress and choose Open clip when ready.
Check the result
Review the new deliverable at its actual aspect ratio. Check subject framing, captions, logos and the first/last frames; the source preview is not the finished edit.
If something does not work
No suggested moments: use a manual range. Suggestions depend on a usable timestamped transcript.
Create clip is unavailable: added editing requirements route the work through Request variation.
You need several formats: submit a separate variation for each clearly specified deliverable.
