Mentions and Citations show what AI is saying about you, while AI Traffic reveals what happens after. Real visitors who click through from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode, or other AI platforms land in this report. Use it to connect your AI search visibility to actual sessions, conversions, and revenue impact.

Connect Google Analytics First

AI Traffic relies on your Google Analytics 4 property. Without that connection, the report remains empty. Connect GA4 in your AI Visibility project settings before expecting any data. Once connected, sessions typically start appearing within a few hours.

Locate AI Traffic in the Navigation

Click AI Traffic under REPORTS in the AI Visibility navigation. The page title will read AI Traffic Analytics. At the top, you'll find two filters:

  • Date range. Defaults to the last 30 days.
  • Source filter. All Sources by default, or filter to a specific AI engine.

Adjust the Metrics You're Measuring

Use the toggle in the upper right of the AI Traffic Overview to switch between four metrics:

  • Sessions. Visits to your site from AI referrers.
  • Users. Unique visitors.
  • Conversions. GA4 conversion events you've configured.
  • Conv. Rate. Conversions divided by sessions.

Below, select Day, Week, or Month to set the time granularity.

Understand the Overview

The Overview consists of two paired charts and a source breakdown:

  • Sessions Over Time. A line chart of your AI-referred sessions by date, segmented by AI source.
  • Share of Sessions. Displays the mix of AI sources sending visitors, shown as a stacked percentage over the same date range.
  • Sessions by AI Source. A pie chart and a ranked table showing the number of sessions and the share from each AI engine.

Below the Overview, four totals summarize the period: Total Users, Total Sessions, Total Conversions, and Conversion Rate.

Compare AI Traffic to Total Web Traffic

Scroll past the Overview to find the comparison block, which includes two charts:

  • AI Search % of Total Web Traffic. Shows what share of your total site traffic comes from AI referrals.
  • AI Search vs Organic vs Other Web Traffic. A side-by-side comparison highlighting AI search in the context of organic search and direct traffic.

Use this view to answer the question executives often ask: How much of our traffic is driven by AI today?

Pro Tip: Conversion data is only as accurate as the events you've set up in GA4. If Conversions read 0 but you have sessions, a missing GA4 conversion event is likely the cause, not zero impact. Configure events in GA4 for actions you care about, like form fills, demo bookings, or signups, and the Conversion Rate will populate within a day or two.
