Texas Rangers Are Going To Keep And Retrofit Their Old Stadium

The Texas Rangers are early in the construction of a new retractable roof ballpark adjacent to their current home, what is now called Globe Life Park in Arlington, Tex. It’s slated to open in time for the 2020 season.

But in a departure from every ballpark construction project in recent history, the Rangers have no plans to demolish the current structure, which has been home to the Rangers since 1994, Rob Matwick, the club’s vice president of business operations, recently told Boomskie on Baseball.

The original Arlington Stadium, once just to the north of Globe Life, was turned into a hole in the ground quicker than an umpire can call strike three.

But that was pretty typical. Such was the fate of the old Yankee Stadium across 161st Street in the Bronx from the new one, Shea Stadium in the wake of Citi Field, and Comiskey Park next to what is now called Guaranteed Rate Field.
