At Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia, New York, Matt made him rate five golfing scenarios, and his answers didn't disappoint. Guy even shared a story of playing golf with Joey Sindelar.

From ranking the misery of a rain-soaked tee time to the unexpected thrill of a PGA legend joining your group, Guy's ratings kept Matt guessing. Was a sunny, windless day the ultimate win? Or did a delayed start with good company edge ahead? To find out, check out the conversation.

Welcome to a special edition of Mike and Matt. But today, we have Guy Cipriano with Golf Course Industry Magazine with us. Guy, how are you doing today? Great, Matt. I mean, we're at Cherry Hills Golf Club in Batavia, New York, getting ready to play in the New York GCSA POA outing. It's a crisp August twentieth day. Crisp in August twentieth, but it doing great. How can you not be? Oh, it's awesome to be out here. So we're gonna ask you or tell you five statements about, showing up to a golf course. You're gonna rank them from one being outstanding, five being that would be not good if it's if I see it. Am I showing up as a player, Matt, or am I showing up as somebody touring the golf course with the superintendent? You are gonna be a player. Oh. So if this is from a player's perspective, you show up to your your tee time and it's raining. Five. That totally sucks. Okay. You show up ten minutes early and the tee times are already running thirty minutes late. You know, that's a three or a four right there. It depends what the vibe is. Sometimes waiting to play could be the best part of the round if you're with the right people telling the right stories. Okay. Sunny, seventy seventy eight degrees, no wind. One. Okay. But I don't know your other scenarios. That that's what makes it so fun. You're getting ready to play and the fourth guy is late to the tee time, and he's a current PGA Tour player. Oh my god. That's a one. Right? Like, that would be awesome. I actually have an experience like that. Oh my god. Like, twenty years ago, when I was working in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, I was playing a golf course, Mark Twain golf course in Horseheads, New York by myself. And the guy who was in front of me me was slowed down and asked me, hey. Can I join you, or do I wanna join him? I'm like, sure. And we get through a hole. I'm like, this guy looks really familiar. And then I looked on his bag, and it was a central New York golf legend, Joey Sindelar. And I played the back nine at Mark Twain Golf Course with him just on a random, Tuesday when I was working in Williamsport, New York. Oh, that's awesome. Hey, Guy. Thanks for participating in our five questions. Thanks, Matt.

NWSL refreshes finances as teams 19 and 20 wait

NWSL refreshes finances as teams 19 and 20 wait

The NWSL has no firm date for awarding teams 19 and 20. Commissioner Jessica Berman wants to finish the season and refresh the league’s financial information first.

  • 01NWSL has set no deadline for awarding franchises 19 and 20, with expansion timing dependent on market readiness rather than a fixed schedule
  • 02The league will update its financial data after completing the 2026 season, which ownership bidders will review when evaluating expansion opportunities
  • 03Jessica Berman positioned 20 teams as a next milestone, not a maximum, citing precedent from the NFL, NBA and NHL which each have at least 30 franchises

Rice renames stadium in 20-year deal ahead of $120M renovation

Rice renames stadium in 20-year deal ahead of $120M renovation

Rice University renamed Rice Stadium as First Community Stadium under a 20-year deal with Houston's First Community Credit Union. The package also covers alumni banking, internships and branded cards. A $120 million renovation, expected to begin at the end of this season and continue through 2027, will cut capacity from 47,000 to 30,000 seats.

  • 01First Community signed for 20 years just before the $120M Gateway Project, which is expected to begin at the end of this season and continue through 2027 and will reduce capacity from 47,000 to 30,000. That suggests much of the deal could run in a renovated, smaller venue.
  • 02The naming deal also makes First Community the official financial institution of Rice Football, Rice Athletics and the Association of Rice Alumni, with internships, career services and branded cards attached. Rice describes it as a naming rights and campus collaboration agreement.
  • 03Rice is also pursuing a jersey patch sponsor and naming rights for other venues. George said Rice wants deals that make sense for the university as a whole.

Premier League and EFL are $179M apart over five years on a funding deal

Premier League and EFL are $179M apart over five years on a funding deal

The Premier League has raised its proposed annual payment to the rest of English professional soccer to about $239 million. The EFL wants $275 million, and EFL Chair Rick Parry is said to believe $239 million is still not enough. The higher offer would still need a further vote of Premier League clubs.

  • 01Over five years the reported gap is $179 million, smaller than a single year's payment under the Premier League's $239 million-a-year offer.
  • 02An EFL yes on Friday would not finish the deal. The $239 million-a-year offer still needs its own vote of Premier League clubs.
  • 03Deal length may be easier to move. The EFL wants five years, the Premier League first proposed ten, and sources say it could compromise.
