Watch: Robots Replace Humans on Construction Sites During Japanese Worker Shortage

Japanese construction sights have relied on robots to replace humans during a current labor shortage. Major Japanese construction manufacturer Shimizu Corp. showed off robot workers on Monday, including some already in use. Robots with twisting and turning arms are expected to be ready for use on sites later this year.

Humans do not have to be worried about being displaced just yet, however. These robots can only handle one percent of duties associated with construction work. Trying to get robots to complete even just 10 percent of typical duties may prove to be too costly.

Shimizu’s robots will only be used at night for the time being, in order to minimize safety risks.
