Emirates Airline president Sir Tim Clark wants airlines to start embracing technology to keep up with evolving consumer needs and emerging industry standards. In a recent interview with Business Insider, he had strong words for the airline industry, expressing that companies who don’t take steps to incorporate new technologies would “perish”.
Among the technologies mentioned such as robotics and augmented reality, Clark believes that technology should be the core of the business and not a side hustle.
“It’s not a question about using advanced technology to increase the way you do your business like ancillary revenue streams because that’s a given,” he says. “It’s not a question of not knocking your companies down internally and rebuilding them on digital platforms. That’s a given for us. It’s not the case for a lot [of other airlines].”
Blockchains and cryptocurrencies also weigh heaviy on Clark’s vision for the future. While blockchains have already made their way into other industries like Healthcare, Clark believes that adapting the technology for airlines is essential.
“Blockchain is a revolution within a revolution. It’s going to transform everything we do and how you and I interact with each other and things around us.“[1]
