Golf course design hinges on countless small choices that reveal what operators really value in their facilities

Building the perfect golf course comes down to the small decisions, and Matt Pauli, VP of Standard Golf, recently shared his take in a lighthearted conversation with colleague Michael Bohlmann. Through a game of "this or that," Matt explored the choices that shape his dream course, from tools to design elements.

The duo debated everything from flagstick styles to cup cutters, weighing elegance, functionality, and personal preference. They didn't just stick to the greens—sand traps, tee markers, and even trash solutions were all part of the fun!

Matt, happy Friday. Happy Friday. Friday? Yeehaw. Friday. Yeehaw. Friday. I love it. Fri yay, as I say. Fri yay. As the kids say. This week, we are going to do a fun little game. Okay. It's gonna be this or that Stinger Golf Edition, okay? It's for that. So, Matt, you're to Matt. You are going to be given two different products that will go on your customized golf course. You're just gonna say this or that, and we'll have an idea of what Matt's golf course would look like. I'm not to know them at the time. Okay. Yeah? Alright. First, we're gonna start on the green. On the green. Okay. On the green. Let's do, flagstick. Royal wine or tournament? Tournament. Okay. I love the tournament flagstick. I know that I look great. S t two thousand or aluminum cup? Well, I'll take the aluminum s t two thousand. K. That works. I like that. I like that. I don't like my flash sticks to twist and turn. Next one Yeah. Double sided dye sub or embroidered flag. Oh. That's a good one because I was gonna go with single sided dye sub over double sided. Mhmm. Only because I like the lighter weight flag. It doesn't take as much wind to move it, so I like the lighter flag. But the embroidery is so so elegant, so I'm gonna go with a nice embroidered logoed flag. That's an embroidered flag. Alright. Next one, we gotta cut the cup. So Gotta cut the cup. Are we going to do Magnum hole cutter or SG Pro hole cutter? See, this is always an interesting thing I talk about. Everybody says let's I gotta go cut cups today, but you're really cutting a hole. No one says let's cut a hole. Just the interesting thing that I I was saying about here about, the maintenance guys here. Does anyone say let's go cut holes or you say let's cut cups? Either way, if I'm cutting holes or cutting cups, there's no doubt I'm saving my back and I'm doing the SG Pro hole cutter. Perfect. Okay. Alright. Maybe I'd get around to it eventually. I I figured you would. Oh, yeah. So moving off off the green, we're gonna go into the sand. Okay. I just need you to pick Tour Pro Chief or Tour Smooth. You got three options. Oh, send me the Tour Pro. Tour Pro? Tour Pro for your everyday underrate. Next one, we're gonna go back to the greens now. Yeah. Cup setter. Are you going the regular cup setter or deluxe cup setter? Oh, I think the deluxe is nice. I we had to make sure I set the depth perfectly. Perfect. Yes. Next one, tea box. Yes. I need your favorite tee marker. It's not a this or that. I just need your favorite tee marker. What's going on in the Matthew golf course? No, man. I'm gonna do a customized timber tee marker. Perfect. Yes. And now we need a ball washer. Classic or medalist? Well, given those two, I'm going with the medalist. With medalist? I'd prefer the premier with our own with a custom decal on it, but I'll go medalist. Alright. And then the very last one? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Litter mate or LitterCaddy? Well, I I don't wanna see the trash, so I'm doing LitterMate. Plus, I could customize it if I want. Perfect. Well, all Matt's answers are right here. So this is your perfect course. Love it. It's looking pretty good. Sunny seventy five every day, maybe? Or we didn't talk about it. I think that's nice. I think that's nice. Light breeze out of the southwest. I don't know what direction the courses are going. Anyways, alright. We'll see you next Friday. Perfect.

As World Cup arrives in the US, creator-access clauses reshape broadcast rights deals

As World Cup arrives in the US, creator-access clauses reshape broadcast rights deals

FIFA's broadcast strategy for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico represents the most structurally complex rights package in the tournament's history. Deals now span over 220 territories, include a live-streaming partnership with YouTube, and formally embed creator access into rights frameworks for the first time. Meanwhile, Fox Sports' legacy deal — secured in 2015 for $485 million — has become what Observer describes as the broadcast bargain of the century, setting up dramatically higher price expectations in the next rights cycle.

  • 01FIFA secured broadcast agreements in over 220 territories, with a Dallas-based International Broadcast Centre distributing roughly 8,000 hours of additional non-live content, according to FIFA.
  • 02Fox Sports pays $485 million for US rights to a tournament Observer estimates is worth more than three times that figure — making it likely the last major sports broadcast deal secured at a deep discount.
  • 03FIFA's first-ever global creator programme and a preferred-platform deal with YouTube — allowing broadcasters to stream the first 10 minutes of every match plus select full games — mark a structural shift in how rights are packaged.
