Collagen builder Astrion outdrew AstraGin at NuLiv's Bangkok booth

NuLiv Science says Astrion, its collagen-building ingredient, drew more interest than AstraGin at Vitafoods Asia 2026 in Bangkok, held September 2 to 4. Brands also asked for probiotic strains for pet weight loss, children and women's health. A newly published AstraGin trial in Nutrients and a July 2026 Senactiv trial give the company fresh evidence for its older ingredients.

NuLiv Science went to Vitafoods Asia 2026 expecting AstraGin to be the star of a new market. At NuLiv's Bangkok booth, Astrion drew more interest than AstraGin, the company's absorption flagship. Speaking in a MarketScale Studio segment recorded at the show, the company's representative said collagen is sold in almost every store in the region, and that probiotic requests now arrive sorted by pet, child and life stage.

The show ran September 2 to 4, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, according to an August 27, 2026 preview by DataM Intelligence. NuLiv says it came because the Asian market keeps expanding and because it now works with sales teams in Malaysia, Indonesia and Bangkok. It arrived with new data as well: a Senactiv trial announced in a July 2026 press release and an AstraGin trial in Nutrients that Nutraceutical Business Review covered as a new study.

For a formulator choosing an active for Southeast Asia, the stakes are which claim earns shelf space: a collagen builder, a strain-specific probiotic or a longevity ingredient with exercise data. The interview gives one supplier's read on all three, and the published record on each ingredient shows what the claim stands on.

Astrion took the booth because collagen already owns the shelf

One of the most interesting things when we come to a new market is we always think AstraGin might be the star of a new market. But what we see in Vitafoods is that Astrion is a lot more popular. — The speaker, NuLiv Science

Astrion is built to raise the body's own output of collagen I, collagen III and hyaluronic acid, the speaker says. Collagen I is the fibrous protein that gives skin its tensile strength, collagen III sits alongside it in skin and blood vessel walls, and hyaluronic acid is the molecule that binds water in the dermis, the living layer beneath the surface. A builder prompts fibroblasts, the skin cells that make collagen, to produce more of it, where a collagen peptide supplies protein fragments from outside.

Collagen is sold in almost every store, and collagen products and anti-aging products are very, very heavily marketed. So here, Astrion is perfect as it grows collagen one, collagen three, and hyaluronic acid. — The speaker, NuLiv Science

The biology behind that pitch is well mapped. In a systematic review published in June 2025 in Cosmetics, an MDPI journal, researchers at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences screened clinical studies from 2014 to 2025 under PRISMA, the checklist that sets how a systematic review searches for and reports its studies, selected 11, and found the decline of type I collagen to be a central contributor to dermal thinning, loss of elasticity, wrinkles and sagging. The same review describes the damage route: ultraviolet light generates reactive oxygen species, unstable oxygen molecules that injure cells, which raise matrix metalloproteinases, the enzymes that cut collagen apart, while also suppressing new collagen synthesis.

That leaves a skin product two levers, slow the breakdown or raise the synthesis, and Astrion pulls the second as the speaker describes it. The June 2025 review covers no Astrion trial, so a brand weighing it against a marine peptide is weighing the company's own dossier against a published literature. Pollution, the review adds, damages fibroblasts directly, which is why a synthesis claim matters most in cities where the shelf the speaker describes is longest.

Grand View Research, in a collagen market report covering 2026 to 2033, names Asia Pacific the fastest-growing regional collagen market over that period, which matches the shelf the speaker describes. The same report says hyaluronic acid, peptides, plant-based proteins and ceramides are gaining because they hydrate skin and support tissue repair without animal-derived collagen. Astrion enters a crowded aisle, and its edge, by the company's description of its portfolio, is a plant-based route to the same end point.

Peptides already carry the human trials a builder has to match

Hydrolyzed fish cartilage and low-molecular-weight collagen peptides raised collagen production and improved skin hydration in the trials the June 2025 Cosmetics review examined. Hydrolyzed means the protein has been broken into chains short enough to absorb, and low molecular weight means those chains are shorter still. The review reports those supplements also improved texture and reduced visible photoaging, the sun-driven form of skin aging.

That is the benchmark a collagen builder sells against in Asia. NuLiv describes itself in its July 2026 press release as a plant-based nutraceutical ingredients company that draws on Traditional Chinese Medicine and partners with academia, so Astrion's commercial case is a non-animal ingredient aimed at the outcome marine peptides already document. Grand View notes in the same report that plant-based peptides appeal to vegan and ethically minded consumers, which is the buyer the pitch fits.

The practical question for a formulator is which marker the supplier measured and in whom. The peptide literature in the Cosmetics review reports hydration, elasticity and photoaging scores in human subjects, the downstream result, while a claim about collagen I, collagen III and hyaluronic acid output is an upstream synthesis marker, the contributor the review names. A brand needs the downstream readout before the upstream claim goes on a label.

Probiotic requests now arrive sorted by pet, child and life stage

One of the biggest trends we see in Asia is probiotics. Probiotic strains for different health functions. There's even probiotic strains for pets. For pet weight loss, there's probiotic strains for children's health, for gut health, even for women's health. — The speaker, NuLiv Science

A strain is the identifier below species level, and two strains of the same species can behave differently in the gut, which is why buyers now ask for strain-level data. The speaker reports the trend as an observer of what brands asked for. The exhibitor list backs it up.

The show's preview names strains for women's health, emotional wellbeing and the gut-muscle axis, by DataM Intelligence's August 2026 count. Biogrowing planned to bring probiotic strains tied to digestion, metabolic regulation, women's health and emotional wellbeing, and Glac Biotech was bringing postbiotics, products made from non-living bacterial cells and their metabolites. Lallemand Bio-Ingredients was launching a probiotic positioned around the gut-muscle axis, the signaling route between gut microbes and skeletal muscle.

Women's health is the sharpest example of life-stage targeting. According to the same preview, Balchem was presenting research on cognitive health in post-menopausal women, and Lallemand was presenting clinical work on menstrual health and pregnancy support. For a brand, that means the generic women's wellness product is being replaced on the stand by a menopause product, a pregnancy product and a cycle product, each with its own data.

Pet weight loss is the request the speaker singles out, and it has a market behind it. Mordor Intelligence, in a report updated in January 2026, values pet probiotic supplements at 1.32 billion dollars in 2025 and forecasts 2.49 billion dollars by 2031, a compound growth rate of 11.4 percent. Mordor attributes the growth to owners paying premium prices for pets they treat as family, veterinary endorsement of gut-health probiotics, e-commerce subscriptions and a preference for strain-specific, shelf-stable formulas.

The same report bounds the Asia story. North America held 43 percent of pet probiotic sales in 2025, by Mordor's count, while Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region at a 12.1 percent compound rate through 2031, and digestive health took 41.8 percent of demand, so a weight-loss strain sells into the smaller remainder. A pet probiotic launched for Southeast Asia is a growth bet today, which fits the speaker's description of a market made of small, highly specialized demographics.

AstraGin keeps adding trials while Astrion takes the Bangkok traffic

A newly published crossover trial in Nutrients found AstraGin raised amino acid absorption and grip strength in adults aged 60 to 80. According to Nutraceutical Business Review's coverage of the study, 30 healthy adults in three age groups took AstraGin or placebo in two phases, a single dose to measure amino acid uptake after whey protein and four weeks of daily supplementation alongside resistance training. AstraGin is NuLiv's patented compound of saponins, soap-like plant compounds, from Astragalus membranaceus and Panax notoginseng, two roots used in Chinese medicine.

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover design, each participant takes both the ingredient and the placebo in sequence, neither subject nor researcher knows which is which, and every subject serves as their own comparison. The trial found better absorption of valine, leucine and isoleucine, the three branched-chain amino acids muscle draws on, with the largest effects, plus gains in grip strength and muscle mass, in the 60 to 80 group, and favorable changes in markers of gut permeability. Richard Wang, NuLiv's chief executive, said in the announcement the publication covered that publishing in a journal with an impact factor of six, a measure of how often a journal's papers are cited, was a milestone, and that showing absorption leading to physical performance in a human trial is rare.

That breadth of uptake is why the ingredient slots into so many formulas. Nutritional Outlook reported in April 2023 that earlier research had shown AstraGin raising the body's absorption of amino acids, omega-3s, creatine and hemp cannabidiol, so a formulator can add it to a protein, a creatine or an oil product without changing the headline active. The same article covered a gut pilot: eight ulcerative colitis patients aged 20 to 80 took AstraGin or placebo before breakfast and dinner for three months, and the AstraGin group showed a 420 percent increase in Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, a 180 percent increase in Bifidobacterium adolescentis and a 98 percent decrease in Prevotella, alongside improved arginine absorption.

Eight patients makes it a pilot, and the publication labeled it an early study. It sits under the Nutrients paper as the gut-side half of the record.

The Bangkok result measures booth traffic. The evidence count tells a different story. The speaker says later in the same interview that AstraGin remains among the ingredients customers ask for most because it fits into so many different products, so the honest reading is that Astrion matched the shelf in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia while AstraGin keeps the breadth and the trial record.

Senactiv's longevity talk arrives with an 11-woman trial from July 2026

A key speaker at the event, by the interviewer's description, was presenting Senactiv, NuLiv's recovery ingredient, on longevity, muscle performance and general wellness. NuLiv's July 2026 Senactiv trial enrolled 11 women aged 60 to 73 and reported doubled muscle stem cell counts after leg press. NuLiv Science announced the study in a July 8, 2026 press release, citing publication in the Journal of Ginseng Research.

Senactiv features ginsenoside Rg1, a saponin from ginseng, the press release says. Participants took either Senactiv or a placebo, then an hour later performed four sets of seated leg press at 70 percent of their one-repetition maximum, the heaviest weight they could lift once, with muscle biopsies, small tissue samples, taken at baseline and 24 hours after. The published title refers to a senolytic effect, meaning clearance of senescent cells, aged cells that have stopped dividing but remain metabolically active.

By the company's account, exercise alone did little to the muscle's stem cell activity or energy production, while Senactiv doubled the number of stem cells associated with recovery and doubled cellular energy after exercise, the output of mitochondria, the structures inside cells that make their fuel. The release adds that the researchers saw signs these stem cells may help supply energy to working muscle, which is the company's explanation for how the ingredient supports performance and recovery. The release also says exercise alone produced a significant drop in estradiol, the main estrogen, while women who took Senactiv held their pre-exercise level and saw progesterone, a second reproductive hormone, double.

The trial's design sets the claim's scope. Eleven women, one exercise bout and a 24-hour biopsy window measure recovery, and the longevity framing at the show rests on the senolytic reading in the paper's title; Wang said in the release there is more to unpack for active aging and women's health and that the company is already planning the next study. At the same show, DataM's preview says ECA Healthcare was focusing on mitochondrial function, NAD+ depletion, a shortfall of a molecule cells need to make energy, and muscle preservation, and DKSH Performance Materials on several longevity areas, so Senactiv's distinction is exercise-paired human biopsy data in older women, a detail the preview does not attribute to the others.

A formulator weighing longevity actives can put one question to every supplier: was the data taken at rest or after exercise, and in which age group. The answer sorts a recovery ingredient from a healthspan ingredient faster than the brochure does.

Tailor to one demographic and the product sells, the speaker says

The categories customers asked about most in Bangkok were vitamins, probiotics and longevity products, by NuLiv's account. That list is broad. The speaker's point is that the demand inside it is narrow.

If you're able to learn the health benefit that market is most interested in, you could tailor your ingredient, you could tailor your product to fit that consumer, and then your product would just explode in sales. — The speaker, NuLiv Science

The speaker's own most-requested list runs the same way: AstraGin because it slots into many products, astaxanthin, a red carotenoid pigment, because of a consumer focus on beauty, and InnoSlim for what the speaker calls long, safe weight loss. The August preview carries no attendance or exhibitor count for the 2026 edition, so the growth the speaker describes shows in the specificity of the stands DataM names, each pitched at a narrower buyer than a generic wellness claim.

For a brand entering Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand, the move the interview points to is to pick the one benefit the target buyer already shops for, whether collagen for beauty, a named strain for a named life stage or exercise recovery for active older women, and build the ingredient story to fit it. The next dated milestone is the follow-up Senactiv study Wang said the company is planning. The signal NuLiv itself points to is a tailored product that, in the speaker's words, would just explode in sales.

Why ISPE put peptide and oligo facility design in one guide

Why ISPE put peptide and oligo facility design in one guide

ISPE's new Baseline Guide covers oligonucleotide and peptide facility design in one document, says Jim Love of CRB. It pairs a GMP survey of existing plants with a sustainability outlook and a piping safety framework for scale-up, while FDA's oligonucleotide guidances under dockets opened in 2022 and 2024 remain the regulator's own reference.

  • 01Peptide plants inherited API chemistry thinking and oligo plants biotech thinking; ISPE’s guide puts both modalities in one facility document with both inheritances.
  • 02The guide has three parts: a GMP survey of existing oligo and peptide plants, a forecast of how sustainability and scale will change the processes, and a safety framework for connective piping and equipment.
  • 03FDA keeps its own oligonucleotide-specific guidances under dockets opened in 2022 and 2024, so the ISPE guide works as an industry consensus alongside regulation rather than in place of it.

Astrion drew more interest than AstraGin at NuLiv Science's Bangkok booth

NuLiv Science reported from Vitafoods Asia 2026 in Bangkok that collagen-building Astrion drew more interest than AstraGin, its absorption ingredient, as collagen and anti-aging products are heavily marketed and sold in almost every store, a company representative said. A 150-person trial published in Cosmetics in June 2025 found oral Astrion raised skin collagen 13.2%. Mordor Intelligence still puts North America at 37.95% of collagen supplement revenue, with Asia-Pacific growing fastest at 11.65%.

  • 01NuLiv Science expected AstraGin to lead in a new market; at Vitafoods Asia 2026 in Bangkok, its collagen-boosting Astrion drew more attention, the company said.
  • 02Oral Astrion raised skin collagen content 13.2% over 12 weeks in a 150-person, placebo-controlled trial published in Cosmetics in June 2025.
  • 03North America still held 37.95% of collagen supplement revenue in 2025 while Asia-Pacific grows fastest at 11.65% a year, Mordor Intelligence estimates, so the Asian pull is a growth story rather than a size story.

Drug makers often sign CDMO renewals before they know when generics arrive

Drug makers often sign CDMO renewals before they know when generics arrive

Drug makers often renew contract manufacturing deals before they can tell when generics will launch. Novartis's Entresto sales fell 43% in the fourth quarter of 2025 after US generic entry in the third quarter. The risk sits in minimum-batch commitments and two-year auto-renewals.

  • 01In the term-sheet framework described by Gerry Kennedy of Keystone Law, pricing, batch quantities, cancellation and capacity are agreed before any legal drafting starts.
