New Plants: In this insightful video, ISA Certified Arborist Wes Rivers delve into the intricacies of plant sensitivity to environmental conditions, specifically focusing on new plantings and their vulnerability during hot and dry periods. Wes highlights a crucial issue affecting plant health. A root ball that isn’t receiving adequate irrigation due to an ineffective system setup. With a visual demonstration, the two drip lines running alongside the root ball are pointed out. Neither is directly irrigating the root ball’s core. This lack of moisture has resulted in the plant suffering from drought injury, visibly manifested by scorching leaves and a rounded canopy appearance.

However, there’s hope on the horizon. After the plant endured the drought injury, it was given supplementary water, leading to the emergence of fresh leaves at the top—a promising sign of recovery. The expert also sheds light on the blooming anomaly of a crape myrtle in the vicinity, explaining that its lack of blossoms can be attributed to drought-induced stress depriving it of the surplus energy needed for blooming on new wood. Despite the challenges, optimism prevails. The presenter anticipates the plant’s eventual rebound, noting that crape myrtles possess hidden resilience. While it may take some time, the journey to a rejuvenated and healthier tree is already underway. Join us to gain valuable insights into nurturing plant vitality and witnessing the remarkable ability of nature to bounce back.
