In the digital age, the network has emerged as the central nervous system of healthcare organizations, underpinning their ability to deliver effective and efficient patient care. The rapid digitalization and increased connectivity in healthcare have brought about a surge in data generation, necessitating robust cybersecurity measures to protect both the devices that generate this data and the data itself. Personal health information, a prime target on the black market, underscores the urgency of securing healthcare environments.

The network, as the single point of convergence for all digital interactions, presents a strategic opportunity for implementing security measures, segmenting the network, and isolating components from potential cyber attacks. However, the challenge lies in the growth of the network; a flat, unstructured network can accelerate the spread of threats like ransomware. A well-architected network, equipped with the latest technology, can diversify and mitigate risk, ensuring that an attack on one VLAN doesn’t compromise the entire network.

Upgrading the network not only fortifies security but also enhances deployment speed, reduces costs, saves time, and improves user experience for both hospital staff and patients. Now, let’s hear from experts like Sam Feldman, Account Executive for Asimily, Timur Ozekcin, Co-Founder & CEO for Cylera, William Montgomery, Sales Executive for Step CG, and Richard Staynings, Chief Security Strategist for Cylera, who can provide further insights into this critical issue.

The network is the backbone of any health care organization as well as any enterprise today. If they don't have a well architected network, they're not going to be able to provide proper patient care, effectively and efficiently. The biggest technology challenge facing healthcare today is the massive amount of more digitalization and connectivity that we're impacting. That can be from devices or the data that are generating off of patients with increasing amounts of data, how can we help secure the data and also the devices that generate that data. Cyber security is top of mind for everybody. You know, personal health information is extremely valuable on the black market. Plenty of threat vectors into the healthcare environment. So the network is the single choke point in a healthcare environment. It is the place where all things connect, and is obviously a good throttle point for us in order to secure the network and to segment the network and to isolate components of the network from cyber attack. We are never going to stop all cyber attacks against healthcare. Is just too many it's too porous, there's too many entry points. The problem is that when people aren't growing their network in smart way. It tends to be very flat. And that allows things like the ransomware tax that we're seeing to spread much quicker. People have a well architect network with the latest technology. They're able to be able to diversify and mitigate risk. One VLAN is going to get attacked, not entire network. Like we saw with some of the other hospitals that earlier this year have been breached. So having a more advanced network and having best technology to be able do that, helps diversify risk for these organizations. Just upgrading the network, you can make sure that you can provide a number of things. Good high quality network infrastructure will make your time to deployment faster. Your mean time to innocence is much faster. It reduces cost. It saves time, and it provides a much better user experience for the hospital staff and also for the patients.
