Escalating energy costs and growing environmental awareness brings the conversation around the effective management and maintenance of commercial buildings to a critical head. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, the lifeblood of any commercial building, consume roughly 29% of total U.S. end-use energy. A poorly functioning HVAC system can create an unpalatable environment, often becoming the leading cause for businesses to vacate premises. The stakes are high, and building owners constantly seek reliable HVAC mechanical service providers to address these energy concerns.

So, the pressing question is, “Who do building owners trust with their essential mechanical services, and how does a service provider build and maintain that trust?”

NAC Mechanical Services’ Alan Knowlton, VP of Mechanical Services, Chris Kaufman, President, Tim Cornell, Service Manager, and Ivette Dupuis, VP of HR & Administration at NAC, share the ethos and operations of their organization dedicated to effective HVAC management and maintenance in this insightful overview.

In this episode, these NAC leaders touch upon the following points:

  • The evolution of NAC since its inception in the early eighties, from being an air conditioning service company to a full-service mechanical contractor, capable of handling everything from boilers, chillers, and pumps to controls in commercial HVAC systems
  • The challenge for customers in choosing the right service provider in a market flooded with mechanical contractors and how NAC builds and maintains trust with their clients.
  • The importance of quality customer service and how NAC aims to exceed mere equipment repair, focusing on building lasting relationships and partnerships with their customers.

NAC was started in the early eighties, as a air conditioning service company. Since then, we've expanded into boilers, chillers, pumps, controls, we can pretty much now do anything mechanically in any office building, a commercial HVAC system. We're a full service mechanical contractor. We do service and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, as well as replacement and retrofit of existing. So the the biggest reason that people leave commercial buildings is because there's a bad environment because the HVAC systems are poor. And the HVAC systems consume seventy percent of the power in the building. For a building owner, it's one of those issues that they have to address from an energy standpoint all the time. We work with a lot of companies, try to get them financing on jobs, trying to come up with energy solutions for them to save them money. Our market has become more and more full with other mechanical contractors. Many of them think that it's just a big moneymaker and it's an easy industry to get into. And I think that's a challenge for our customers is they don't know who to turn to. It's almost like an auto mechanic. You think you can take your car anywhere, but what you find out is that's the guy I can trust. And so trust is is big for us. Everybody says they can give quality. Right? We all know how to fix equipment, but it has to be beyond that. I think it's the customer service and to know how of the people. NAC's customers know when they call us we can solve all of their problems with one phone call. We have technicians trained in a variety of different fields. And we can send the right guy for the right job the first time. We've had years of experience in this and even though it sounds cliche, the quality that our techs provide is really far above the rest. Ninety five percent of our customers are repeat customers. When we take on a customer, we've taken them on for a lifetime. We've had customers here for thirty plus years. All companies can go out here and say that we're the best at this and we're the best at that. We're more customer focused. Ours is about building the relationship. Building a partnership and taking care of the customer.
