Dave Mozden, a board member of the International Supply Chain Protection Organization (ISCPO) and consultant with Sendero Solutions Group, discussed at the ISCPO 2023 Conference how leveraging social media can detect and resolve crimes.

Social media has become a gray market platform for the movement of illicit goods. Organized retail crime has now become organized supply chain crime. Luckily, social media can also be tapped to find losses and effectively turn the tables on the bad guys.

Sendero Solutions Group is a consulting firm that specializes in risk management, compliance, and cybersecurity services. One of their areas of expertise is social media risk management, which involves helping businesses identify and mitigate risks associated with their social media presence.

Social media has become an integral part of business operations, allowing companies to connect with customers, promote products and services, and build brand awareness. However, social media also comes with inherent risks, such as data breaches, reputational damage, and legal liabilities. Not to mention the widespread movement of illicit goods.

Some criminal organizations and individuals are using social media platforms to advertise and sell illegal goods, such as drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods, and stolen property. These activities are often conducted using coded language and anonymous profiles to avoid detection. Social media is also a tool that can be effectively leveraged to detect and resolve crimes.

Dave’s thoughts: Dave discusses the importance of social media investigations to curtail the movement of illicit goods as retailers focus more on e-commerce versus the retail setting which is opening the window for criminals.
