Behind every electric vehicle, wind turbine, and ton of lower-carbon steel is a less-visible transformation: how industry makes heat. For a century, heavy industry ran on flame — gas- and fuel-fired furnaces that are hard to control, expensive to run, and heavy on emissions. As China accelerates into EVs, batteries, renewable energy, and cleaner steelmaking, that model is quietly being rewritten, and the technology doing the rewriting is electric induction heating.

Induction heats metal directly, using high-frequency magnetic fields to generate heat inside the workpiece itself rather than in the air around it — faster, far more precise, and dramatically more energy-efficient than combustion, and, crucially, electric. In a country where industrial energy use and emissions are under intense scrutiny, swapping a gas furnace for an induction system isn't a marginal upgrade; it's a step change in efficiency, control, and carbon footprint. In steel mills especially, replacing gas-fired furnaces with electric heating is one of the most direct levers manufacturers have to decarbonize without sacrificing output.

The demand is being driven by exactly the sectors China has staked its industrial future on. EV manufacturers need precise, repeatable heat for components and battery production; wind-power supply chains depend on high-integrity metal parts; and a steel industry under pressure to cut emissions is looking for electric alternatives at scale. Each depends, somewhere upstream, on the ability to heat metal cleanly and exactly.

But industrial transformation doesn't happen on the strength of a good technology alone. Manufacturers adopt new systems only when they can be engineered to local process requirements, delivered on realistic timelines, and supported for the long haul. That gap — between a promising technology and an industry-wide shift — is where localized capability becomes decisive.

This is the role Inductotherm Group's operation in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province plays for Chinese industry. Across a 60,000-square-meter facility — engineering, manufacturing, testing, sales, and service under one roof, backed by an independent 6,000-square-meter warehouse and a global supply chain — a team of more than 450 designs and builds induction systems tuned to local needs, with sales and service offices throughout the country. Front-end engineering focuses on reducing energy consumption while meeting each customer's exact process requirements, and even proven equipment is continuously refined to keep pace.

Reliability is what lets a manufacturer bet a production line on a new system. Before any equipment leaves Wuxi's testing area it passes a strict regimen — electrical-line inspection, a 24-hour water-loop pressure test, and full-power load testing. Paired with full-lifecycle support — digital analysis, preventive and predictive maintenance, retrofits and upgrades, spare parts, and training — it lowers the risk of adoption to something an operations team can actually sign off on.

None of this is new territory for the company. Inductotherm Group has advanced induction technology since 1953, from the first VIP power supply to Dual-Track and Multi-Track systems and Thermatool's HazControl welders. What's changed is where that expertise is now applied — engineered and delivered locally, at the scale Chinese industry requires.

The larger point is easy to miss, because induction works quietly, inside the machine. But as China builds cleaner, more competitive, more electrified industry, the ability to heat metal efficiently and precisely — with equipment engineered and supported on the ground — is becoming a strategic capability in its own right. Empowering that shift, one furnace at a time, is the real story in Wuxi.
