The adoption and acceleration of drone delivery have been fast-paced in the last few years. To get an update on what’s happening and preview the 2021 Commercial UAV Expo, Drones in America host Grant Guillot welcomed back Danielle Gagne, Editorial Analyst, and Jeremiah Karpowicz, Editorial Director at Commercial UAV News, a Diversified Communications publication.

Karpowicz said of the upcoming Commercial UAV Expo, which will be held in Las Vegas this September. “The event has grown phenomenally since 2016, and the excitement we’re seeing across the industry is really palpable for the event.”

A lot of that interest is because the last year has shown what’s possible with drones, as they’ve provided safe, efficient ways to deliver goods. The pandemic was the catalyst, but those capabilities will still be in demand post-COVID.

“At the Expo, you’ll learn what it’s like to adopt this technology. It can have a substantial impact on logistics, last-mile delivery, and warehousing. It’s no longer this is how we think it will work. We’ve got the data and use cases,” Karpowicz said.

Gagne concurred that there is more acceptance by everyone regarding drone delivery. “There are positive representations about drone delivery in the media. It’s now clear they save time, money, and energy and offer efficiencies.”

Drone delivery is likely to become part of the long-term logistics picture, whether that be last mile or simply on-site. Karpowicz shared, “There’s medical delivery where minutes or seconds make a difference.” There are also cases where saving time improves the bottom line. “On a construction site, if a drone delivers a tool to a worker, that’s efficiency you can quantify over time. That data will be valuable to those advocating for drones to provide to decision-makers.”
