“Electrification is another piece of the journey to decarbonize, which means releasing less CO2 into the atmosphere. To do this, it’s reducing the burning of fossil fuels for energy, which relates mainly to building heating for space and water,” Scanlan explained.
The move toward this, certain to be a bigger focus in the next year, is the reliance on renewables like solar and wind.
“The challenge with wind and solar is the sun has to be out, and the wind has to be blowing,” Scanlan said.
State regulations, local building codes, and national policies are all fueling this goal to decarbonize.
“There are two things building managers are more conscious of now. First, it’s what do they use for generating heat and not wasting it? [That goes] along with how buildings store energy, instead of having to use it when it’s made.” Scanlan noted.
