The West Coast’s busiest north-south freight lane now has an early blueprint for where Class 8 battery trucks and hydrogen trucks will refuel, and how those sites will work across borders.
On Aug. 26, leaders from California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Baja California launched the British Columbia to Baja California Zero Emissions Vehicle Corridor, known as BC2BC, at the Port of Long Beach, according to Heavy Duty Trucking. Government Technology, citing reporting by the Los Angeles Times’ Hayley Smith, said the aim is straightforward: enable electric trucks to travel Interstate 5 from the West Coast’s northern end down to Baja California.
For fleet operators, the headline isn’t a ribbon cutting. It’s that corridor-level standardization is becoming a planning input, and it will show up in vehicle specs, route design, and utility negotiations that are happening now for 2027, 2030 equipment cycles.
