Philadelphia Eagles’ Star Quarterback, Jalen Hurts, came up short in his quest for his first Super Bowl win, but his performance was no less than historic. Could Jalen Hurts’ next contract prove just as historic?

In yesterday’s defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs, Hurts scored 20 points himself (three touchdowns and a two-point conversion) and carried the ball 15 times for 70 yards, a quarterback Super Bowl record. Aside from one fumble that the Chiefs returned for a touchdown, Hurts’ performance was destined for MVP status had the Eagles held on for the win.

Hurts’ leadership throughout the season and his stellar post-season should give the Eagles’ brass reason enough to sign him to a long-term deal. Still, with one year left on his current contract, there is always a temptation to play the waiting game. Should the Eagles hold off and wait till next year to attempt re-signing Hurts, or is the smart money on a contract extension now?

Suite Talk: The Business Behind Sports host, Patrick Rishe, believes it may be too risky for the Eagles to hold off on Hurts, and he provides insight into the several reasons why.

Rishe says, “Part of the reason why the Eagles are likely to sign a long-term deal with Hurts sooner, rather than later, is you have three other star quarterbacks this off-season who are eligible to sign new contracts… If those deals get done before Jalen Hurts’ deals get done, and those deals are likely to all be over $50million in average annual value, that’s gonna raise the price on the Eagles and Jalen Hurts would just make that much more.”
