Why do you think the workforce can expect as retailers have adapted to the pandemic with leaner? Workforces You think we're gonna see more roles treated as seasonal? Is it going to be a continued leaner workforce? First? Do you think we're going to see a return of any of those brick and mortar roles? Or will they adjust and shift? Interesting for me though also in grocery. I I was in whole foods over the weekend, and there's an army of pickers in there. Right? Mhmm. Pick it for either the curbside pickup or for delivery. I mean, it there were more pickers than customers at one point. I mean, maybe there is a, you know, a shift in in the type of role that that retail employees will will actually perform. And I think there's gonna be, you know, if you if you look at the sort of distribution, the distribution model where, you know, a physical brick and mortar store can be used as distribution hub, then you might have a larger back stock or a back office stock that is going to be permanently manned by pickers and packet So I think there's gonna be some additional jobs that will be created as the sort of the the evolution of online on on the omni channel business, you know, develops.

Fuel-selling convenience stores hit an eight-year high even as total count slips

Fuel-selling convenience stores hit an eight-year high even as total count slips

NACS and NIQ TDLinx put the 2026 U.S. convenience-store count at 151,975 locations, down 280 stores. Fuel-selling stores rose to 122,620, the highest in eight years. For operators, the data sharpens where forecourt uptime, fuel margins, and foodservice investments matter most by state and ownership scale.

  • 01A flat national store count can still mean more forecourts to run: fuel-selling locations grew 768 sites even as total c-stores fell 280, per NACS.
  • 02State variation is the real planning variable: Texas alone has 16,504 stores while Alaska has 185, and New York saw the biggest decline (-143), per NACS.
  • 03Ownership mix drives vendor go-to-market: 63% of stores sit with operators at 10 or fewer locations, a reminder that ‘enterprise’ rollouts must work for small fleets too, per NACS.
