Dr Trevor Castor is the President of Aphios International, a name that means “virus-free” in Greek.

“We are developing a pathogen-reduction technology called CFI to clear blood plasma, plasma products, biologics and medical devices of viruses and other pathogens.

Our technology is unique in that it does not use heat, chemicals or radiation that could be harmful to the underlying beneficial proteins, such as antibodies.

Our technology works by giving the virus the bends. [We put] virus particles with a gas under pressure, then quickly release the pressure, and the infected virus pops at the weakest points, very much like the disruption of a scuba diver who rises too rapidly or the popping of a balloon.

Our research, funded by the National Institutes of Health, has been successful, and we are [continually] raising funds.”
