Hello everybody, and welcome to our Go Lumio Webinar Series, where we are providing learning opportunities to highlight Lumio's engaging and collaborative tools. Our getting started sessions are designed to take you through the five steps of getting started with Lumio. In today's session, we are going to focus on step one and show you how to transform your existing content using Limeo. My name is Jennifer Underwood, and I am a customer success manager from Florida. Today's webinar, transforming existing lessons with Lumio, features Shel Evans, customer success manager, also from Florida. We encourage participation. I'll be supporting you in the If you have any questions or ideas you'd like to share. At the end of today's webinar, additional resources will be shared in the chat. Also, for participating today, a certificate will be provided after you complete a brief feedback survey. At this point, I'm gonna turn things over to Asha so that we can get started with today's webinar, transforming existing lessons with LumiO. Woohoo. Thank you for that introduction, Jennifer. And thank you all for joining us today. For this getting started session all about transforming your existing lessons with LumiO. Now I'm assuming, you know, if you're here in this getting started session, maybe you're not as familiar with Lumio, you're just starting to use it. This is the right place for you because we are here to get you started. Before we dive into, the content of today's webinar, just wanna give you a little overview of Lumio in case you aren't familiar. And, LumiO is a digital learning tool, cloud based platform that allows you to transform your content. So there's that word again. That's, like, the buzzword of today's session, transform. It allows you to form your content into interactive learning experiences that you can engage students with on their devices. So, essentially, you can take your lesson that you typically present from your front of room display and push it out to their devices so that they can interact and participate, from their end. So Pretty neat. And in today's session, we'll show you how to get started with that by taking your existing content, and just transforming it in Lumio. As Jen mentioned in her introduction, our getting started webinar series is focused on the five steps of getting started with Lumio, and you can see them all laid out here. And in today's session, we're focused on this first one that has that gold box around it, which is start. And with the start piece, we will be exploring the Lumio Library which is an awesome place where you can find content that's already been created. And we'll also be showing you how to import resources of your own, and then transforming them here in Lumiya. And you can see the rest of the steps here, and we'll progress through these, over the next two months, to go through each step and to help you all fully. Get started with Lumia. So now that I've given that little spiel, let's dive in and start creating We want this to be a hands on experience for you all. So we do encourage that you sign into Lumio and create alongside me today. I'm going to go ahead and, close out of my presentation here. And in the chat, we're going to provide you with the link. Oh, it looks like Jen already did it. Thank you. The link to sign in to Lomio. So if you, click on that link that she shared there. If maybe you have a second device, you could have me up on the other, while you're signed in on the other one. Or if you don't have two devices and maybe you just wanna split your screen, that's an option as well. But, of course, you could just watch me. And when you receive the recording, you can press play and pause and go at your own speed. As you start to, play around in Romeo. So I'm gonna give you all some time to click on that link and get signed in. I'll also pull it up here just so, you could see what it would look like for you if you did decide to sign in. Using that link from the chat, I've been taken directly to this page here. I would select the option that says teacher sign in, And from here, you would choose whether you want to sign in with Google or Microsoft. It just depends on, which account your school, or district uses. For me, it would be Google. And then I would go ahead and enter my email address. Now if this is your first time signing in, there are a few prompts that you will, need to respond to. Before you're taken to your Lumi homepage, and your Lumi homepage will look similar to mine, which is what I'm sharing on my screen right now. If you have signed in before, don't worry about those prompts. You'll be taken right into, your LumiO account and have access to your home page. If you are signing in, feel free to share with us in the chat. Let us know that you're good to go. And you're ready for me to move on, you could give us a thumbs up, or I'm ready. Well, cool. Awesome. I see one good to go. Jennifer, I guess you're ready. You got the rocket in there. Alright. So since I got one good to go, I'm gonna go ahead and keep us moving for the sake of time. On your Lumio homepage, there are lots of different icons and buttons that you can click on. But I don't want us to get overwhelmed by all of that and I'm just going to focus on, a few key icons, on the screen today. So, starting in the top center, right in the top, you have a section that says my library, And that's what you're currently in. So if you've used Lumio before, you should see files or you could see files, that you've saved in your library. I'm just scrolling through mine here, lots of content. This is your personal Lumio library. So any files that, you've created or saved you will see appear here on this page. Now right next to the my library tab, you have an option that says LumiO Library. And the LumiO Library is where you can go. To access content that's already been created. And what's really neat about this Lumio library is I can very easily take any of the content here and save it to my personal library. So that way, if I wanted to use it with my students, I could. When you click on the Lumio library, you'll notice that there are collections or categories that you can browse through. And, if there is something specific that you're looking for, There is the option to type your search term, in the box at the top of the page. You can also search by grade level or subject. Now once you find a resource that you're interested in, All you have to do is select it, and that will allow you to preview that file. But you can kind of get an idea as to what all is included in the lesson and how you might use it with your students before you decide to save it to your library. That saving part is very important. If you actually want to use this lesson, with your students, be sure to save it to your library. When you save it, That will give you your very own copy of that lesson. And because it is yours, you'll have the option to edit it. So if maybe there was content you wanted to add or remove, or you just wanted to customize the lesson in some way, you would be able to do that once it's saved. Or you could present the lesson as is. I just saved this fractions boot camp lesson to my library. And I can see in the bottom right corner of my Lumio screen, it is now in my library, and I've been given the option to edit or start. If I don't wanna do any of that, maybe I wanna keep browsing, I'll just dismiss that message. And I can keep looking for content in my linear library. So Tons of resources here, and they're constantly adding, new content. So if you check today and you can't find something that you would like to use, We do encourage you to definitely check back in the future because there's always always new stuff here. Alright. So that was my Lumia Library. And if I wanted to get back to my personal, collection of files and resources, I would just click right next to Lumia Library in the top center where it says my library. And just like that, I'm back to my own stuff. K. So you can toggle back and forth between your personal account and the Lumio Library very easily. It's just a simple click, between those two options in the top center. Alright. Now, moving over to the right of the Lumio Library, You'll notice a graduation cap. That graduation cap is an icon that you'll see all around Romeo. And whenever you see it, just know that help is here. It can be found on different features in LumiO. And when you click on that graduation cap, it'll show you a little video that gives you an overview of that feature or tool so that you can see how it works. Before you decide to include it in your lesson. And, here, on the LumiO Home page, it takes you to a learn LumiO site which is where you can find all kinds of LumiO resources to support your LumiO journey. So the graduation cap comes in very handy, be on the lookout for it, as we build a lesson today. We usually like to quiz people and and see how many graduation caps they noticed, though. You're on the lookout. Underneath that graduation cap, you will see, your class ID. That is the number that you share with your students if you ever want them, to connect to your lesson from their device. That number never changes. And, once students have entered it for the first time, it does get saved on the website. So that the next time, they return all they have to do is click on your name. Right? So those are the three sections I'm gonna cover here. On the home page for today, you have your class ID, graduation cap in the top right corner, and then Lumio Library in the top center whenever you want to search for pre made content. Now that we've gone through, those three sections, let's actually create something. So, what I'm going to do is come down towards the left side of my screen. And right underneath your teacher name, my teacher name is back to school back to Romeo. More than likely you created yours as something involving your last name. But right underneath that, you'll see an option for new as well as an option for import. Import will allow you to import files that you've already created. So whether it be a PDF, PowerPoint, Google slide, even a notebook file, if you're a smart notebook user, you would be able to import that into Lumio. And then add any of the Lumio features to it. And the new button right next to it brings you to a creation dashboard that shows you different tools and features that you have access to here in Lumiya. So go ahead and click on that new button if you haven't done so already. And you'll notice on the dashboard, you still have the option to import a resource. K? So If I wanted to, which I do, actually, I could import a file that I've already created. Maybe it's a a lesson that you've been using with your students for, you know, the last couple of years. It's something that you're really comfortable with. But now as you start to venture into LumiO, you know, you decide you just wanna make it a little more engaging or interactive for them. You can import that and then add any of these neat features that you see here on the dashboard. And you know what I also see on the dashboard? Congratulations caps. So, these are the caps that I was mentioning just a few moments ago. And if I were to click on any of these here, it would show me a little video that, allows me to see how that tool or feature works in LumiO. So as you all, create and and start using the platform, use those graduation caps to help you. Alright. So I'm going to start with the import resource option. And because I signed in with my Google account and it's integrated with my drive, I'm actually going to import a file from my drive. Once you locate the file in your drive that you would like to import, double click on that file. And it will prepare to, import into your Lumio account. When this window appears, you're able to select which pages from that file you actually want to bring over. So if you just wanted, like, one or two slides from the deck, here in Lumio to to spruce up and make more interactive, you could do that, or you could import the entire file. Which is what I'm going to do, and just press add. Now while that's working, I do want to make mention if you are importing any files from Google Drive into LumiO, you will still have your original slide PowerPoint, whatever that file was in your drive, you'll still have the original version there. You just also get a Lumio Coffee, which is what you are sprucing up and making more engaging here. Alright. So my file has been imported. I can scroll through and see all of the slides here. And if I wanted to, I remember seeing there was a YouTube button on that dashboard. Think I wanna add a YouTube video here. For me to add a video, graphic organizer a game based activity, any of those options that we saw on the creation dashboard, all I would need to do is select the plus sign that is visible in the bottom left corner. K. So whenever you're building a lesson, if you ever wanted to add another page or a game, anything like that, you just click on the plus sign in the bottom left corner, and that always brings you back to the dashboard. So think plus means add. When I want another one of these goodies here, click on the plus sign, and it'll take you back to this this view. With our YouTube feature in Lumiya, you are able to embed add free videos, which is really neat. And those videos play as part of your lesson. So they won't open up in a, separate tab or window. It'll keep your students in Lumio. Now the Google slide that I imported is an SEL slide all about positive self talk. So I have searched for a video that aligns with that. When you search for a video, to preview any of them, you just select the YouTube icon in the bottom right corner. And if you decide that you would like to include that video in your lesson. Just select and press that. And so now I have, that video here. It's on page two of my slide deck. But if I wanted to rearrange the order, I could, the same way you would in a PowerPoint or Google slide, you can just click and track. Alright. So remember, this is all about getting started. And we're taking baby steps here. So I'm going to leave it at, the video. But remember, if you did want to add anything else, click that plus sign, and you have quite a few options, that you can choose from. To, add engagement to your lesson. Since I am done, building Excuse me. Up in the top left corner, there is a button that says finish editing. But right next to it, you'll see the name of your file. If I wanted to rename this, I could. I'll just go ahead and add today's date. And once I see that it says saved, I'm good to go. Okay. So when I first typed in, the date there, I saw my little cloud, and it said saving. Now it says save. I've got my check mark. I can press finish editing, and all of my changes have been saved. Once you press finish editing, you'll be back on your Lumio homepage. And in just a second, I'm going to, present this lesson so that you all could see what it would be like for your students but before that, I just want to do a quick recap of what we've done, so far. So from the Lumio homepage, we clicked on the new button, which brings you to the creation dashboard from here, you were able to import a resource, or you could just start building a new lesson using any of the options that are shown here. Once we were done building, we pressed finish editing, and that took us back to our home page. Alright. Let's see. Questions. Looks like Jennifer got it handled. Cool. Alright. So, hopefully, you were able to, start building something with me. Maybe you didn't get to finish because I know we didn't spend much time there. But what I'm going to do now is prevent this lesson and give you all the opportunity to connect as students so that you could see, what it would be like from the student perspective. Now to present, a lesson from your LumiA library. All you have to do is click on the file or lesson that you would like to present, and it will open it up in presentation mode. So you can see it looks a bit different, than how it did when we were editing and and and building the lesson. Instead of having my slide deck on the left, I have a toolbar. And this toolbar is what allows me to interact with the slides of my presentation, as the teacher. Now if I wanted to get students connected, did. Remember, your class ID can be found on your Lumi homepage, but you also have access to it when you are presenting a lesson, and you can find your class ID by going to that toolbar on the left. And selecting the second icon from the top. And I can see Jennifer is on it. She's already put my information in the chat. So I have two students in already. And as your students connect to your lesson, you would be able to see that, as well. In this section, the class ID can be found at the top. And there is a little arrow here that you can select to, make that information more visible for your students. They can join with QR code. They can go to hellosmart dot com and enter your class ID. Or like what we did with you all today, you could actually copy and paste a, class link in your Google classroom or whatever LMS you may use, and they could access your lessons from there. Alright. So the four of you that I have connected, you should be able to see the slide that I'm presenting. And using this pencil tool here on my toolbar, I'm gonna go ahead and start annotating. And as I make these annotations, you are able to see these changes being made on the copy that you have in front of you. This is exactly what it would be like for your students. So as you are providing that direct instruction, marking notes, they would see all of that on their device in front of them. Now My lesson is in teacher pacing, which means as I change the page as the teacher, It also changes on the student device. So you can make sure they are literally on the same page of view. However, there is an option called student pacing, which would allow your students to freely navigate through the lesson. So regardless of what page you're on, they could be on something totally different. Which would be useful, during maybe, like, small group instruction, or if you have them working independently and want them to be able to refer to the notes, and complete the activity. Here on the second page of my lesson is where I included the video the five of you that are connected, you can play the video on your end. I can also play it on my end, and you'll notice it gets right into the content of the video. Right? Add free. No commercials or weird recommendations. You just get to see. The video that you want to see. Alright. So, the rest of the pages that I have in this lesson are, other pages that I could mark up as the instructor there is a feature in LumiO that allows your students to actually, interact and annotate over a page, but we will be covering that in a future webinar. If you decide that, it's something that you would like to learn sooner, rather than later, you can access resources before that, using the graduation cap found on the lineal homepage. Okeydoke. So, we walked through the annotations here. You got to see the YouTube video. Before I end this lesson, I do want to show you how to get a share link. So, let's say you created a lesson that You think your teammates might benefit from or, some colleague that you teach with could benefit from you could share this lesson with them. You could also share this lesson with your students if maybe it's something you all started during class. But you want them to be able to refer to it outside of class. Maybe they're preparing for an assessment or You just want them to review for homework. There is the ability to share with them. For you to access that share link, while presenting your lesson, you would just click on the three lines in the top left corner. Of your teacher window. And when you click on those three lines, you'll see an option on the menu that says share. It gives you the teacher option and also the student option. So it just depends on who you want to share this lesson with. You would get that corresponding link and then distribute it as you see fit. You can also access the share link, from your Lumio homepage. So I'm going to end my lesson by clicking on those lines again. And from the Loomio homepage, if you wanted to get the share link, locate the file. So here's my file. In the bottom right corner, there are three dots. You select those dots. And, again, you'll notice share link. Alright. So that about wraps up our time. Hope you got something useful out of our getting started session today, which was focused all on transforming your existing content, which is why we imported a Google slide because it was something I already had. And then I was able to just jazz it up a little bit. Using the tools in Lumio. Now that we've gone through that together, we encourage you to try it out on your own. Explore the Lumio Library, see if there's anything in there you would like to use with your students, import a a file that you're already familiar with and just spruce it up by maybe adding a video or even a game. The graphic organizer, any of those features that you saw on that dashboard would be awesome. For increasing student engagement. And then lastly, you know, sharing is caring. So once you create, feel free to share your lesson with, fellow teachers or even with us on social because we would love to see it. Speaking of social, in the chat, Jennifer had provided you all with a link to this resource page. And at the bottom of that page, you can see all of our social handles. So if you're on any of those platforms, feel free to connect with us. In addition to that, we have some pretty useful resources to support your Lumio implementation. Starting off with Learn Lumio, which is the website that the graduation cap on the Lumi homepage will take you to. That is where you can find all kinds of resources. Not only for you as an educator, but there's also stuff there for parents and students. And if you are, someone may be working from the district level, there are resources there for you as well. On the resource page, you also have access to our Bloomio YouTube channel where you can see all kinds of videos and how tos for the different LumiO features. Our LumiO Ambassador community found super fancy But you don't have to be an expert to be a part of this global network of educators. Simply use Romeo and, be interested in, technology in the classroom. And this would be a great community for you to join. And then, lastly, you have direct access to our go Lumio webinar registration, which you probably already know where that is, right, because you registered for the webinar today, but We've made it even more convenient for you, including it here in the resource slide. Last but not least, if you do have any other questions, feel free to drop them in the chat. And we do have a survey. For you to share with us what you thought about today's getting started session. We do value your feedback. So please It doesn't it's not a long survey at all, and you do get access to a PD certificate at the end. So there's something in it for you as well. But we appreciate you for joining us today. And we hope to see you at a future session. Where we dive into the second step of, getting started with Lumio.
