The surge in burnout and turnover among teachers, especially in K-12 schools, is a pressing issue in the education sector.

The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the burnout challenges faced by educators, with many reaching a breaking point and opting to leave the profession altogether. Overnight, teachers were thrust into the daunting task of transitioning to remote learning environments, grappling with technology barriers and managing students' limited attention spans.

These challenges have had a profound impact on educational outcomes, evident in the learning loss recorded over the past few years. Looking ahead, Stefanski emphasizes the need for comprehensive support systems for teachers, including adequate compensation and wraparound services.

As parents witnessed firsthand the Herculean efforts of teachers during the pandemic, delivering instruction and accommodations to students while ensuring their safety, Stefanski underscores the importance of prioritizing teacher well-being in the months and years to come. This not only safeguards the mental and physical health of educators but also plays a vital role in maintaining school security and fostering a conducive learning environment.

Hey, everyone. This is Ron Stefanski. The host of Disrupted where we talk about the disruptive changes going on in education. And I think one of the big issues facing our education system in the k twelve sector, especially, is the increase in burnout and turnover among teachers. During COVID, we saw a lot of teachers participate in that great resignation And why is that? It's because a lot of teachers finally reached an exhaustion point. And a lot of them said in mass, no more. I'm done. If you think about what we asked teachers to do during the pandemic itself, it was nothing, less than herculean, Many of them were not really savvy in using online technology and overnight. And without training, they were asked to transform their classes into remote learning environments, and that proved challenging, especially with the younger grades where you have kids with limited attention span and you're trying to Coral, a group of twenty, twenty five students, all out of Zoom call, all running around with parents working and forced to work at home at the same time. So I think these do impact educational outputs and performance, and I think we've seen that in the learning loss that we've recorded, and, in the research over the last couple of years. As we look ahead, I think we need to prepare to provide more care and feeding of our teachers out there. I think we need to consider, what we pay them, but more importantly, the wraparound services that we provide them in order do what they do. Because if you were a parent during the pandemic, you saw firsthand some of the her hercule lien efforts of your teachers and your kids' teachers delivering instruction, delivering assignments to the home, working to accommodate those students with special needs. All while trying to say safe and healthy at the same time. So I think that's a really important consideration, and I think we really have to turn our attention to that as we look at the teaching profession of the months and years ahead.
