Hello everybody, and welcome to our Go Lumio webinar series where we are providing learning opportunities to highlight Lumio's engaging in collaborative tools. Our getting started sessions are designed to take you through the five steps of getting started with Limeo. In today's session, we're gonna focus on step three and show you how to create independent and collaborative activities for your learners. My name is Jennifer Underwood, and I am a customer success manager from Florida. Today's webinar, igniting engagement through collaboration and feedback, speech ASHA Evans. Another customer success manager from Florida, and it is hot here today. We encourage participation. I'll be supporting you in the chat if you have any questions or ideas that you'd like to share. At the end of today's webinar, additional resources will be shared in the chat. Also, for participating in today's session, a certificate will be for provided after you complete a brief survey. At this point, I'm gonna turn things over to Asha so that we can get started with today's webinar. Igniting engagement through collaboration and feedback. Whoo. Take it away. Thank you for that wonderful intro. Rejection, Jennifer, it is very hot here in Florida. We would love to hear where you all are from, and we hope it's not as hot, where you are. But you are in for a treat today. We're going to have fun Showcasing, how to ignite engagement, and collaboration using the Lumenio platform. Now as Jen mentioned in her introduction, today, we are focusing on step three of the five getting started steps in LumiO. And with this step, it's all about engagement. So I will be showing you all how to add individual and collaborative activities in LumiO and also showcase our, FET add on as well as Desmo. So any math teachers here today you'll get to see some tools that you can use with your student. Next week, we will be wrapping up the five steps of getting started with LumiO and showing you all how easy it is to add engagement to your lesson while delivering it. So be sure to, come back next week and and see what we have on the agenda. Now that we've gotten introductions out of the way, gonna go ahead and start creating. So coming here to the top left corner and ending my lesson, I encourage you all to sign in and create alongside us today. And in order for you to do that, we're going to provide you with the Lumio login link. In the chat. Once you click on this link, you will be able to sign in using either your Google or Microsoft credentials. Okay. So it just depends on, what what you use in your district or at your school. And I will also, bring it up here on my screen. So that you all can take a look. So if you have a second device handy or if maybe you just want to split your screen so that you can see what I'm doing on one side and then follow along on the other that works perfectly. And then, of course, if you just wanna sit back, relax, and watch what I'm doing for now, and then wait until you get the recording, to go at your own pace, play and pause as you need to, you could do that as well. Thank you, Jen, for getting those links in the chat. And again, if you all click on the link, you will be able to sign in. There's a teacher sign and option using Google or Microsoft. Once you are signed in, you will be taken to the LumiO homepage. If this is your first time signing in, there will be a few prompts for you to respond to. Like, are you an adult or a minor? Also, what country you are signing in from. And then once you get past all that, you'll see your Lumi homepage. Alright. So here on the Lumi homepage, I'm just going to point out a few areas, and then we'll get into creating. First area I would like to point out is in the top center of this home page. You'll notice you have, two tabs. One says my library, which is where you can see all of the files that you have saved to your personal Romeo account. If you've not saved or created anything in here before, then there won't be much to look at. But as you start to build your collection, you'll start to, see this library here fill up. Right next to that, you have access to the Lumio Library, which is where you can find content that's already been, created. All of this content is free and available for you to save to your library. And, there are categories and collections that you can browse through. As well as a search bar up at the top if there is something specific that you're looking for. So this is a really great place to go, especially if you're just getting started with Lumio. Instead of you reinventing the wheel, you can just look to see what's already out there. And then adapt it, for your learner. When you want to go back to your personal library. You just click back on my library, and you will see your Lumi homepage. Okay? So going back and forth, Between those two is as simple as, click up a tab here in the top center. Moving over to the right of that, you'll notice a graduation cap. That graduation cap can be seen all around LumiO, and it is there to provide you with support. So if you ever do click on it, you can find videos that show you how to use a tool or feature, as well as other resources to support the Lumio Journey. Underneath the graduation cap, you have your class ID. That is the number you share with your students to have them connect to your lesson from their device. And to the right of that, you have the edit class button. Alright. So now that I've done a quick walk through of a few of the icons you have here on the home page, let's start building. Gonna go over to the left side of my screen underneath my teacher name. I have the new button, and I also have the import button. Import allows you to do exactly like what it sounds as. You can import PowerPoints, PDF, Google slide. If you are connected to your drive, as well as notebook files, We do have a beta version, of importing PowerPoint that allows you to actually edit PowerPoint file. So if you needed to move objects around, within that file, this will be a great option for you to use. And then you can provide us with feedback on how to, improve this tool as you use it. Won't be importing anything today, but I'm gonna go ahead over to new and start there. And whenever you click on the new button, it does bring you to, this creation dashboard. Where you can see the different options for building your lesson. For today, I'm going to start off with a bet interactive simulation. So you'll notice on this second row here of the dashboard I have Fets at the far right end. And look, there's that graduation cap. So if I didn't know what FET was, had never heard of it, And I wanted to check it out before I decided to explore some of the options here in Lumi Al. I can click on that graduation cap and see what it's all about. I'm gonna go ahead and click on that. And with infect, you can type to search. I know that I would like to build a lesson on fractions. So I just typed in fractions so I can see all of their fraction resources. You can type in the subject that you're looking for, or you can simply just scroll through, and check out the different options there if you wanted to explore. And then once you find something that you're interested in, you can select it. I selected the one that says fractions, equality. And now that I have it selected, I can preview this lab. So if I wanted to see, okay, exactly, what do we do with this? Looks like students will be able to model and create equivalent fractions. This aligns with the lesson that I'm creating. I like it. So what I'm going to do is select save to my lesson in the bottom right corner. Okay. So once you find a lab that you're interested in using with your students, just save it to your lesson, and it will be added to your Lumio file. And voila. Here I am. So, I have my vetLab here in my lesson. I can preview, which is what I was doing on the previous page where I could kinda check out, okay, what exactly is the lab, If I wanted to see what the game was, I could, check that out here as well. And again, I like what I see. So this is something that I'm going to keep so I can use with my students. Now that I have this FEDLab here, I'm going to add, another page to my lesson so that students can interact and really get get a hands on, learning experience. For me to do that, there's a plus sign in the bottom left corner of my page That plus sign always brings you back to the creation dashboard. So think plus means add, keeping it all math related here. Whenever you want to add another video game, manipulative, any other page to your lesson, all you have to do is press that plus sign. Now that I'm back here on the dashboard, I'm going to, add a manipulative k. Which is down here in the bottom section under ready made resources. Bear with that. Congratulations cap. Selecting my manipulatives. And since the, FETLab I selected is about equivalent fractions, How perfect is it that I have fraction tiles manipulative? I'm gonna go ahead and select that. Now that I've selected that manipulative, it is added to my lesson. And what I love about the manipulatives here in Lumio is that they have elements that are infinitely cloned. And what that means is students when interacting with this page would be able to access unlimited copies of these pieces to create whatever fraction they needed to further lesson. I used to teach third grade and we would have the little fraction tiles in the baggy. Would hardly ever have complete sets, right, and would always find fraction tiles laying around somewhere. But with this manipulative, you don't have to worry about that. You have all of the tiles that you need neatly on the page year, don't have to worry about any losing any pieces. It's all infinitely cloned and inconvenient for you and your learners. So I love this. Now I can add text to this, and and personalize it a little bit. And I'm going to do that just to provide students with some, direction. So in the top center, of the toolbar, you'll see a few icons there. The capital a is what would allow you to add text. And now I'm just going to click where I want to add, my text box. Alright. So just enlarging it here. Bam. Two equivalent fractions is what I want students to create using this handout. So those are the directions that I typed out. Now the way oh, I said handout. This is actually a manipulative. The way that this page is currently set up is view only for students. So you'll and you'll even see that at the bottom of the screen. It says this page is view only on student devices which means if you were leading a lesson and, you were interacting with the tiles on the page Students would be able to see that on their device, but they wouldn't be able to interact with it for themselves. If you wanted them to be able to manipulate and actually use this space here, what you would need to do is convert it to an activity. And you could convert it to a handout a workspace, or a whole class whiteboard. To do that, In the top right corner of the page, you'll notice a magical wand has a little sparkled around it, so you know it's magical. And when you click on it, that's where you will see your conversion option. And I called this the handout before because I knew that's what I wanted to make it. Was just giving you a little preview. But I am going to make this a handout, which will allow each student to have their own copy. Okay. So each student will technically have their own set of fraction tiles in front of them that they'll be able, to use and manipulate. There's a graduation cup again. Handout. And I like the name fraction tile, so I'll just leave that as is. Alright. So just to recap what we've done so far, started off with the FETLab. Alright. And then, that would be a nice way to maybe introduce students to the topic. And then for additional practice, we have this, fraction tile is manipulative. And then to wrap up, my creation here, I'm going to add a small group activity. For you to add another page, you just click the plus sign in the bottom left corner and voila, just like that, we're back on the dashboard. This time, I am going again to the ready made resources section. But I'm going to select the graphic organizer option instead. In the graphic organizer, similar to the manipulative, you can scroll through, see the different options, and then Once you find one that you're interested in, you just select it, and then it gets added to your lesson. I added this content mapping one. And, again, I can add text and and images, really customize it and make it my own by using the toolbar here at the top. And, I'm gonna actually use our equation editor tool and create a fraction. So any, again, math teachers out there You do have access to equation editor within LumiO, and I'm using that to create my fraction. Make it a little larger. Alright. And now some directions for this activity create for equivalent fractions. To the one above. Draw. Models for each. Okay. So I have my directions here. And make this a little larger. Kinda looks like stairs. Okay. So now that I have the text added, have my fraction, have my direction, I, again, need to convert this because right now, if I were to present this, students could just view it. They can see the changes that I make as a teacher, but for them to interact and make their own changes, it must be a handout workspace or full class whiteboard. I won't give you all another pop quiz. But to convert remember that you just go to the top right corner, click on that magic wand. And this time, instead of making a handout, I'm going to make a workspace. And I'll rename this equivalent fractions. Works. Alright. So I have my workplace so students can collaborate and get some small group thinking going on there. I have my handout for them to independently practice and utilize those fraction tiles. And then we started it all off with a set simulation. Now that I'm satisfied with what I've created, up in the top left corner, you can see a button that says finish editing. Right next to that, you also have the option, to rename your file. So I'm gonna go ahead and do that, and then press finish. Now that I've pressed finish, I'm here on my Lumi homepage, k? This is the lesson that I just created. And if I hover over it, you can see the option for start. As well as edit if I needed to go in and make any changes. Now before I, present this and give you all the student experience. I do want to mention in case there are those of you that maybe, teach more than one class, you do have the ability to make a copy of the lessons you create by clicking on the three dots in the bottom right corner of the file that you would like to copy. And once that menu opens, you'll see an option that says make a copy. Right above it, you'll see share link, which is a great option For those of you that created something that maybe you want to, share with other teachers, give them their own copy of the lesson to use with their learners, or if you wanted to give your students access, to the lesson outside of class or even, maybe posted in your Google classroom or LMS. This is where you could go to get that share link. Okay. So for sharing and copying, click on the snowman for three dots. Alright. So I have now started my lesson, and Remember, on your Lumio homepage, you can see your class ID. Once you start presenting your lesson, if you needed to access your class ID, you would just go to the toolbar over on the left hand side. And it's the second icon from the top. Looks like two students right next to each other. When you click on it, at the top, it'll show you your class ID. And there is also an arrow that creates a little pop out. So that your students can clearly see what they need to do in order for them to get connected. Those of you that are connected, you'll notice that, you're seeing on your screen, the same page of my lesson that I'm currently on. And that is because this lesson is in teacher pacing, which means when the teacher moves, your page moves as well. This is really useful for direct instruction or, you know, anything that's teacher led. However, if you did want your students to be able to work independently, or at their own pace. You do have the option of turning on student pacing. Which can be accessed in the same section as where your class ID can be found. Okay. So if I click on the icon with the two students right underneath my class ID, there's a section that says lesson pacing. I select student, and now students are able to move to any page of the lesson, whether I'm there or not. And if at any point, I needed to, regain control, make sure students were on the same page as me. Maybe I'm doing a wrap up of the lesson class is about to end. I would just go back to the lesson pacing section and select teacher. And no matter what page the students are on, it will bring them to the page that you want them to be on. Alright. Now the page I happen to wanna be on is the fraction tiles one. This is the handout that was created. And, with the handout, teachers have access two students work. Once they start, working on the handout, you'll have a student dashboard where you can click in and see what students have been up to and provide them with feedback in real time. You also have access to a teacher handout, which is really great for modeling, right, especially if your students are new to LumiO. They don't know how to use all the tools here that are involved so you could use the teacher handout to show them exactly what to do. Like, go over those icons on the left and what they're used for. You have the pencil icon if maybe something needed to be written or drawn. You have the eraser. You have the ability to add images and shapes. You can also add text. I love fractions. And then right underneath that, the the book icon with the speaker is for immersive reader. Which is an awesome tool for your English language learners or emergent readers because it will read tech. Sorry. It will read text, to your students. Alright. Now on my teacher dashboard, I can see that there's a check mark next to Jennifer's name. And that is showing because in the top right corner of every student's handout, there's a button that says done. If they click on it, that's when the check mark will appear on your device or on your dashboard. So that lets you know the student is ready to share. Maybe you're looking for students that are, you know, willing to be an example, for the rest of the class. That check mark lets you know, okay. It's okay for me to display the students' work. So thank you, Jennifer. I can see you created one hole is equal to five fit. And, if you are not able to view student work, during class, right, because time is limited. Everything that the students do is saved to the lesson, so you will be able to return to the file at a later time. And then, you know, you can check to see what they did. Alright. And just keeping an eye on my time here. Gonna jump ahead to the workspace. Now the workspace is what will allow your students to work collaboratively. As the teacher, you have to set it up So if you are still looking at my screen, you'll notice I have a big button that says set up here. Because I have two students connected, it's allowing me to create up to two team. However, you can have up to nine. With as many as six students on each. So fifty four students. It will form the teams for you However, if you needed to make any adjustments, you can click and drag, to assign students accordingly. And then just select start workspace to allow them to start working. Just like the handout, you do get access to a dashboard, which will allow you to click in and view what students have been up to. You can provide them with feedback in real time, and their work automatically stays. Now because this is a shared space, Whenever a student contributes within the workspace, you are able to click on that contribution, and it will show you who added it. K? So you can still hold each student accountable for the work that they've done or maybe not done because you are able to see who has added what within that, collaborative workspace. So that's a pretty neat feature. Alright. So that wraps up our oh, I love this model that you created team too. That wraps up the, student experience of our lesson here. And just to recap what we did, we have a graphic organizer that was converted into a workspace. On the previous page, we took a fraction tile's manipulative and converted it into a handout And we started the lesson out with a vet lab. So Lots of, engaging tools and, interactive features that you can add to your lesson in LumiO to really give your students a hands on learning experience. Alright. So I'm curious. If you wouldn't mind sharing in the chat, which tool or feature are you looking forward to trying with your learners? Alright. So now that we've gone through the webinar, we think that you're ready to try out a few things. Hopefully, you feel ready as well. We encourage you to try creating a handout, a workspace, add a decimals or fat activity to your lesson, and share it. If you don't have students or teachers that you wanna share it with, feel free to share it with us on social. We would love to see it. Speaking of social, on our resources page, that is going to get shared in the chat. You'll have access to all of our social handles, as well as resources to support your LumiO implementation. The first resource you'll notice on that page is the Learn Lumio site. This is where you can go to find, resources for educators, district personnel, and even students and parents. So it's really handy. You'll also have direct access to our YouTube channel where you can find all things, Lumio, lots of, how tos and even past webinars. Right next to that, we have our LumiO Ambassador Community, where all are encouraged, to join This community, you don't have to be an expert to be a part of it. We are just simply asking or looking for passionate educators that's new technology. And this is a great place for you to connect with Lumio users from across the globe. As well as share some tips and get some tips. And then lastly, you'll have access to our webinar registration page, which You probably already know how to find, right, because you registered for this, but we do have it conveniently located here as well so that you can sign up for the webinar next week. And all of our future sessions. And, with that said, If there are any questions, comments, thoughts, feel free to share them in the chat, at this time. And we're also going to provide you with the link to the survey. Once you complete that survey, you'll have access to a PD certificate. And it doesn't take long. The survey is really quick. So please let us know what you thought of today's session and get your certificate. Alright. Well, thank you, ASHA. And thank you for joining. And, we look forward to seeing you in future sessions, and have a great rest of your day. Thank you, everyone. Bye bye.
