Architecture studio Grimshaw has released plans for a reimagined entry plaza for Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, according to Dezeen. The design transforms parking lots into transport infrastructure and walkways, with a Boring Company station integrated into an elevated plaza.
That is a different arrival model. A stadium plaza is where the mode of arrival gets settled: the fan who parked walks across asphalt, the fan who took transit walks from wherever the stop happens to be. Grimshaw's plan, as Dezeen describes it, puts the stop inside the plaza rather than somewhere beyond it.
For the operations lead who staffs the gates on event day, that suggests the crowd would begin forming at the station platform, not at the edge of a parking field.
Parking becomes plaza, plaza becomes station
Dezeen's report identifies the scheme as the stadium's north plaza and describes it as elevated. The parking lots on that side would become transport infrastructure and walkways, and the Boring Company station would be integrated into the elevated plaza, according to Dezeen.
The Dezeen item ran on September 15. Its headline reads "Grimshaw to integrate Boring Company station into elevated Las Vegas stadium plaza," so the two features the publication chose to lead with are the elevation and the integration. The body of the listing adds the third element, the conversion of parking lots into transport infrastructure and walkways. Together those are the physical facts on the record.
Those are the established elements. Dezeen's summary of the plans does not include a cost, a construction schedule or a passenger capacity for the station, so anything beyond the physical arrangement is not yet on the record.
The wording is worth reading closely. Dezeen uses "transforming" for what happens to the lots, which means they are converted rather than supplemented. Walkways are named in the same breath as transport infrastructure. That pairing places pedestrian movement inside the same conversion as the station, with the ground between platform and gate reassigned to people on foot.
The absence of a timeline matters for how to read this. Released plans are a design position, not a ground-breaking. A facilities director benchmarking stadium access projects can treat the Allegiant plaza as a current reference design, but not yet as a comparable for cost or delivery time.

Valencia and Miami arrive in the same week
The Grimshaw announcement was one of three transport-led designs Dezeen published within two days. On September 16, Dezeen reported that RSHP and ERRE unveiled plans for Valencia Central Station in Spain, a curved-roof rail hub that will incorporate public green spaces and sweeping roof canopies, according to Dezeen.
The same day, Dezeen covered Arquitectonica's MSC Cruise Terminal at the port of Miami, which the publication describes as the world's largest cruise terminal by size. The building is shaped to follow the direction of the ships and can handle three vessels at once, per Dezeen.
Dezeen describes Arquitectonica as a local studio, and its headline says the terminal was designed to "mirror directionality" of the ships. The building's form, in other words, follows the vessels it serves. The Valencia scheme takes a different route. According to Dezeen, the rail hub will incorporate public green spaces and sweeping roof canopies.
Three announcements in two days do not make a trend. They do give anyone responsible for a high-volume arrival point three current projects, a stadium, a rail hub and a cruise terminal, in which the approach and the transport interface are the design brief rather than an afterthought. The Miami figure is the only hard throughput number among them, and it is a useful one: three ships simultaneously is a capacity statement a port operations team can measure against.
Dezeen also covered a sports venue that week that is already built. On September 13 the publication reported that Chybík + Krištof had completed Jihlava Municipal Arena, an ice hockey arena in the Czech Republic with a zigzagging red facade the publication says evokes a hedgehog, and a running track on the roof. The contrast with Allegiant is the status, not the sport. Jihlava is a finished building. The north plaza is a set of released drawings.
Where this sits in the wider design conversation
There is academic scaffolding for reading projects like this, though none of it is new. A paper by Maged Youssef in the August 2026 issue of Frontiers of Architectural Research builds what the author calls an evolutionary tree chart of architectural trends developed between 2000 and 2025, drawn from six case studies, and frames climate change, pandemics, carbon emissions and AI as the variables reshaping architectural thinking.
The paper appears in Volume 15, Issue 4 of the journal, on pages 1326 to 1354, and is published open access under a Creative Commons licence, with peer review under the responsibility of Southeast University. Its abstract also lists natural disasters among the variables. The opening question is direct: are architects today prepared to design buildings and cities that can withstand these changes? The author identifies the problem as a shortage of comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical foundations that could guide architects in addressing them.
The method is qualitative. According to the abstract, the paper begins with a literature review defining three terms, Architectural Trend, Contemporary Architectural Trend and Theorisation, then identifies the significant twenty-first-century variables, reviews previous readings and sets out a framework of analysis. The six case studies follow, then a detailed comparison, and the discussion arrives at the evolutionary tree chart.
The abstract presents the chart as a classification tool for architects, critics and students. It does not set out predictions or criteria for testing them, so it is a way to place a project like the Allegiant plaza in a lineage, not a way to forecast whether that approach spreads.
Who this is actually about
The conditions are narrow. For venue operators with surface parking sitting directly against their entry gates, and with a transit operator prepared to build a station to the door, the Grimshaw scheme is the most current example of trading one for the other. Without both conditions, the plan is an interesting rendering and little else.
It also lands at a moment when Las Vegas is drawing design attention for other reasons. Dezeen notes that Trimble is bringing its SketchUp 3D Basecamp Summit to the city, with sessions on AI and reality capture in design and construction, although that item appeared as a paid promotion and should be read as such. The promotion frames the summit around how those two technologies are changing the way projects are designed, visualised and built.
A word on the outlet carrying the plans. Dezeen was launched in 2006 by Marcus Fairs, who built it into a global hub for architecture and design news, according to Interior Design. That publication reports Dezeen was acquired in 2021 by JP/Politiken Media Group, a Danish company, in a move the site said was intended to keep it a "bastion of independent journalism." Fairs was the first digital journalist awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Institute of British Architects, per Interior Design.
What would change the status of the Allegiant plan is a published construction schedule or a cost. Until one appears, the north plaza is a set of drawings that shows where Grimshaw wants the crowd to start walking.
