The Great Resignation Takes a Hit at Healthcare’s C-suite

Kevin Stevenson, host of the I Don’t Care podcast dedicated to exploring the challenges faced by healthcare executives and administrators, spoke to the fact that the great resignation “has reached many executive levels in healthcare. There has been a number of CEO transitions over just the last few months, and I’ve heard from a number of recruiters that CEO turnover is really accelerating this year.”

President Biden’s National Drug Control Strategy

The opioid crisis in the United States is on the rise. Overdose deaths continue to escalate, even with increased measures to curtail illegal access to subscription medication. The CDC estimates annual overdose deaths top 100,000. On April 21, 2022, President Biden provided Congress with his administration’s first National Drug Control Strategy. The strategy focuses on two drivers of the epidemic: untreated addiction and drug trafficking.

How Inflation is Impacting Healthcare

While patients are feeling the pinch of other increased receipts, according to a recent CNN report, healthcare prices haven’t increased, just yet. The consumer price index, which is captured twelve months at a time and was reported in March, data shows that costs increased on average by 8.5% but healthcare costs only increased by 2%. However, that doesn’t mean that the industry isn’t also feeling the pinch of inflation.

Designing for Noise

No patient wants to deal with this compounded stress of overwhelming auditory input– especially on top of being sick or injured. Sleep quality, cognitive processing, speech, and physiological health can all experience detrimental impacts from hospital noise. “If we’re unable to sleep, then our bodies are unable to heal,” stated Sandra Soraci, Senior Channel Marketing Manager at Armstrong Flooring. She added, “Increased noise levels have been found to contribute to an increased length of stay and medication use as well as impact on the wound being able to heal.”
