Most people spend their days indoors in commercial settings. Professionals in building management work to make these settings safe, efficient, healthy, and functional. With job positions ranging from IT directors to facilities supervisors, building management integrates several disciplines into one industry.

This week’s SAME-IFMA Facilities Management (FM) Workshop is a conference designed to connect and equip industry professionals.

FM Workshop Details

Hosted in San Antonio, Texas from Feb. 6-8, the FM Workshop features a variety of exhibits and sessions. Topics and speakers encompass diverse disciplines and fields. Participants can register to prepare for the Certified Facility Manager® (CFM) during the event, though separate registration and additional fees will be required.

The Hosts of the FM Workshop

Both SAME and IFMA partner to host the FM Workshop. SAME is the Society of American Military Engineers. IFMA is the International Facility Management Association and has over 24,000 members around the world. By partnering, these two groups are able to help industry professionals make connections and learn about new technologies and methodologies crucial to advancement.

Notable Features of the 2019 Workshop

Due to the wide range of disciplines and approaches to facility management represented at this intensive annual event, the themes of specific sessions vary. There are plenary sessions with keynotes speakers.

One notable keynote speaker is Major General Bradley D. Spacy. He is the Commander, Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. His team’s integration of security, engineering, communications, logistics, financial management, and operational acquisition provide a background for the integration of multiple disciplines for successful facilities management.

On top of the plenary sessions, participants can also learn through sessions that hone in on specific elements, strategies, or advancements in:

  • Geospatial engineering
  • Business systems management
  • Tools and tech for tracking and managing assets
  • Resilience and mission assurance

Participants can also take advantage of several networking opportunities to make connections with others in the industry.

Participating Exhibitors

Many sponsors and exhibitors partner with SAME and IFMA annually for this workshop. Participants can connect with exhibitors to learn about available technologies, services, and other resources available and relevant to the industry.

Some of the 2019 exhibitors include:

  • EEA Consulting Engineers
  • Subcarrier Communications
  • Continental Mapping
  • Tetra Tech

Jacobs is one of the event’s key sponsors and is responsible for the multiple concurrent education sessions. Other sponsors include Conley Group, Vectrus, and several other leaders in or related to the industry.
