Yum Actually makes ice cream derived from fruits, vegetables and other all-natural ingredients, and founder Nicole Frankel shared her journey to creating the brand.
“As you can see by the background, we are a New York City-based ice cream brand. We make a healthier ice cream for kids on strike. I tried just about everything.
Then, I decided to start turning fruits and veggies into something I knew she wouldn’t refuse. [I made] ice cream and, sure enough, she took one bite of the orange and sweet potato ice cream, and she looked up, and she said, ‘It’s yum, actually!’ So, the name Yum Actually was established.
And I knew I had something special. I knew that so many friends who have the same issue struggle to get their kids to eat enough fruits and veggies. Also, there are very few healthier kids ice creams on the market, today.
So, I knew that there was a gap in the market. Fast forward three years. We went to market early 2020 right before COVID, which was very interesting timing, of course.
But we did manage to get in about 50 different retailers during the pandemic in New York City, which was tough, but people didn’t stop buying ice cream. So, that’s the story. I’m happy to discuss more about the business, more about launching right before COVID, and our plans for the future.”
