One of the things that I love about our AI visibility tool is it comes out of the box already working for you, but it's a little generic. It's doing its best to find what prompts and what competitors it thinks you want to make sure that it's looking at for you. But we really want to dial that in and make sure you're getting the most out of this tool. So what do you need to do? First, you need to make sure your competitor list is complete. You know that you can come over here on the left hand side of your tool under preferences, click on competitors, and you can add those in. You can look at the suggested list and see if you wanna add those in really easily. Make sure that you have your competitors listed in your settings. Okay. The next thing I wanted to talk about is the fact that sometimes, and I have specific clients like this that have solutions for very different markets and industries. So for example, I have a client that sells into the health care market. They also sell into the education market. Very different industries and very different competitors and very different prompts that they want to be keeping an eye on. So guess what? You can create tags for all of these things. Think of all the different ways, all the different groups in your company that you can create tags for. So you might have for these different markets there you're in, for different product lines that you have, maybe different funnel stages of the client journey. Those are all things that you can create tags for. So you can come down here under your preferences, and you can go ahead and create that list of tags just here on the right hand side, create it manually, or you can have the AI help you out. Feel free to use that as well. And then once you come over here to your report, say your overview report, you can take a look at that report based on these tags. So now when I want to look at this particular market or this segment of the market, I can get very specific and look specific competitors and my very specific share of voice. You can do the same thing with your prompts. So I could look at this based off of this particular tag. And so I can decide where do I want to make some moves? What do these prompts look like they are relevant for me? It really helps you to dial in and focus this tool to really work on the things that matter to you and your particular department in your company. So don't forget that you can do that. Make sure that you are updating your prompts. Remember, you have this great tool over here on the left, the prompt research. Lots of different places that you can go in and do research. The people also ask tool is a great place to look for those questions and those prompts that you wanna bring in based on the SEO keyword research that you know is important to your brand and to your particular market segment or your department. Overview
In this 3:30 training video, Logan King demonstrates how to customize the AI Visibility tool in MarketScale beyond its out-of-the-box configuration. The session covers three core customization areas: updating your competitor list to reflect your actual market landscape, building a tag taxonomy organized by market, product line, or funnel stage, and using those tags to filter both reports and AI prompts for more targeted insights. The result is a tool that works for your specific business segments rather than returning generic, broad-level data.
What Is This?
AI Visibility tool configuration is the process of adjusting the platform's default settings — competitors, tags, and filters — so that the insights generated by AI-powered reports align precisely with your organization's markets, products, and go-to-market strategy.
What You'll Learn
- Update your competitor list to match your real competitive landscape
- Create a structured tag taxonomy organized by market, product line, or funnel stage
- Apply tags to filter AI-generated reports for segment-specific performance data
- Filter AI prompts by tag to receive focused, contextually relevant insights
- Move beyond default tool settings to unlock deeper, more actionable visibility data
- Align AI Visibility outputs with distinct business units or campaign objectives
Key Insights
- Default AI Visibility settings are a starting point, not a final configuration — customization is where the tool delivers its real value.
- A well-structured tag taxonomy lets teams isolate performance signals by market, product line, or buyer journey stage without running separate reports.
- Filtering AI prompts by tag shifts the tool from generating general observations to producing insights that are directly relevant to a specific segment.
- Keeping your competitor list current is a foundational step that affects the accuracy of every competitive insight the tool surfaces.
Deep Dive
The AI Visibility tool in MarketScale is designed to surface how your content performs across AI-driven discovery environments, but its default configuration reflects a generic starting state rather than your actual business context. The first step Logan King emphasizes is updating the competitor list. When the competitors defined in the tool match the organizations you genuinely compete with in the market, every comparative insight the tool generates becomes more meaningful and actionable for your team.
The second configuration layer involves building a tag structure that reflects how your organization thinks about its business. Tags can be organized around geographic markets, specific product or service lines, or funnel stages such as awareness, consideration, and decision. This taxonomy becomes the backbone of how you segment and interpret AI Visibility data going forward. Without it, reports tend to aggregate data in ways that obscure the differences between distinct audiences or offerings.
Once tags are in place, filtering reports by tag allows teams to view performance data through a precise lens. Instead of reviewing a single consolidated report, a content strategist can isolate visibility metrics for a specific product line, or a demand generation team can examine how well top-of-funnel content is performing in a particular region. This level of granularity makes it far easier to connect content decisions to business outcomes.
Filtering AI prompts by tag extends this precision into the query layer itself. When a prompt is scoped to a specific tag, the AI returns insights that are contextually grounded in that segment rather than drawing from the full content universe. For organizations managing multiple brands, markets, or buyer personas, this capability transforms the AI Visibility tool from a broad analytics surface into a focused strategic resource.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I update the competitor list in the AI Visibility tool?
The default competitor list is a placeholder that may not reflect your actual competitive environment. Updating it ensures that every comparative insight and benchmark the tool generates is relevant to the markets you operate in, making the data far more useful for strategic decisions.
How should I structure my tag taxonomy for the best results?
Organize tags around the dimensions your team already uses to segment the business — markets, product lines, and funnel stages are the most common starting points. A consistent, clearly named taxonomy makes it easier to filter reports reliably and share findings across teams without confusion.
Can I filter both reports and AI prompts using the same tags?
Yes, tags created in the AI Visibility tool can be applied to both reports and individual AI prompts. This consistency means you can move from a high-level filtered report into a specific AI-assisted query and maintain the same segment focus throughout your workflow.
