Hi it's Michelle I want to tell you about an easy way that you can add voiceovers to your video project. First off there are two different types of voiceovers there is a human voiceover my personal favorite and there is an AI voiceover. AI voiceovers are very popular with our clients. They can be great. However, they do not measure up when it comes to the nuances of a human voice, the emotion, the inflection. So you really can't beat the human voice. And if you can get a human voice connected to your company, a thought leader, a colleague, or team member to share that voice over in their voice, it lends to the authenticity for that project. Regardless, I'm gonna tell you how easy it is to add either one. So first off, when it comes to the human voice over, you can do it in a few different ways. You can record directly into the studio platform, and then you can just grab the link to that file and add it into the original media studio of your project that you're working on with notes telling the editor, please use this file for the voiceover. If you've already recorded a voiceover or maybe you did it in a studio somewhere, you can always upload that file into the studio platform. And again, take that link, add it to the original media studio for your project. And the third way that you can add human voice over is to use your phone. There are a lot of free apps here on your phone that you can use to record, and then you would just take that file, upload the file to studio, grab the link, add it into your original media studio, and let the editor know here is your voice over file. Now let's say you do want to use an AI voice. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm going to give you a few tips if you decide to go that route. First off, be as specific as you can. Do you want a male? Do you want a female? Do you want an older or younger voice? Is there a certain dialect that you're looking for? As specific as you can be, the more likely you are to get what you want in return. You probably have a vision, so tell the editor what the vision of the voice is that you have. That will clear things up and will get your project back to you much more quickly. The second thing to remember with using an AI voiceover is to double check the file that you are uploading for that AI voice. Make sure that there are no mishaps or any areas of question that the AI voice could get into trouble because, again, they're not human. They won't be able to read it like a human would be, so make sure there are no issues there. And lastly, if there are specific words that could be a little tricky with the pronunciation, then you will definitely want to make sure you phonetically spell those words out. Again, there is less room for error. We want to make sure that project is accurate and we want to get it back to you as soon as possible. So there you have it easy ways to add voiceovers to your project. Again, full argument here for the human voice. AI voices are great, but when it comes to really having an authentic message, one that will connect with the people and have more impact, having that voice be representative of somebody from your company is even better.

Overview

This training video, led by contributor Michelle Dawn Mooney, walks through the two voiceover types available in MarketScale Studio video projects: human and AI. In under four minutes, viewers learn three distinct methods for submitting a human voiceover, as well as practical techniques for configuring an AI voiceover so it renders accurately. The lesson is designed for contributors at any experience level who want clean, professional audio on their first submission.

What Is This?

A voiceover is a recorded narration track layered over video footage that communicates the script without the speaker appearing on camera. In MarketScale Studio, voiceovers can be produced by a human contributor or generated by an AI voice engine based on a written description and a reviewed script file.

What You'll Learn

  • Identify the two voiceover types available in MarketScale Studio projects
  • Record a human voiceover directly inside the Studio platform
  • Upload a pre-recorded audio file as an alternative submission method
  • Use a free mobile app to capture a voiceover on your phone
  • Describe an AI voice with enough specificity to get an accurate result
  • Phonetically spell brand names and technical terms so the AI renders them correctly

Key Insights

  • Studio gives contributors three equally valid paths for submitting a human voiceover, so you can choose the method that fits your equipment and environment.
  • AI voiceover quality depends heavily on the description you provide — vague inputs produce generic results, while detailed tone and pacing notes produce more natural-sounding audio.
  • Reviewing your script file before AI submission is a required step, not optional, because unreviewed problem words are the most common cause of mispronunciation in rendered AI audio.
  • Phonetic spelling is the most reliable way to ensure the AI correctly pronounces brand names, product names, acronyms, and industry-specific terminology on the first pass.

Deep Dive

Choosing the right voiceover method starts with understanding what each option requires from you. Human voiceovers offer maximum control over tone, pacing, and emphasis. Recording directly in Studio is the most streamlined path — no file management needed, and the audio is attached to the project immediately. Uploading an existing file is a good option if you recorded in a professional environment or prefer dedicated audio software. Recording on your phone using a free app such as Voice Memos or a similar recorder works well when you need flexibility; the key is finding a quiet space and speaking close to the microphone to minimize room noise.

AI voiceovers remove the need for a microphone entirely, but they require more deliberate preparation at the scripting stage. When describing the voice you want, go beyond basic labels. Note the gender, approximate age, energy level, pace, and any regional or accent considerations. The more specific your description, the more likely the rendered voice will match your intended audience and brand tone.

Before submitting your script for AI generation, read through the full document and flag any word the engine might struggle with. Common problem areas include hyphenated compound words, numerals written as digits, abbreviations, and proper nouns that do not follow standard pronunciation rules. Once you identify these words, rewrite them phonetically in the script file. For example, a brand name like 'Veritaq' might be spelled out as 'Vair-ih-tack' so the engine reads it as intended.

Taking these preparation steps seriously reduces revision cycles and gets your project to final delivery faster. Whether you choose human or AI, the goal is the same: clear, credible narration that serves the viewer and represents your brand accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What free app can I use to record a voiceover on my phone?

Any built-in or free voice recording app on your smartphone works for this purpose. Voice Memos on iPhone and Google Recorder on Android are two commonly used options. The priority is recording in a quiet space and exporting a clean audio file you can upload to Studio.

How do I make sure the AI voiceover pronounces my brand name correctly?

Before submitting your script, locate every brand name, product name, or technical term that could be mispronounced and rewrite it phonetically in the script file. For instance, write the word exactly as it should sound syllable by syllable. This step prevents the most common AI voiceover errors and reduces the need for re-renders.

Can I switch from a human voiceover to an AI voiceover after starting a project?

This tutorial focuses on selecting and setting up your voiceover type within a Studio video project, and the best practice is to decide on your approach before submission. If you have a question about changing voiceover types mid-project, reach out to your MarketScale project contact for guidance specific to your workflow.

After completing this lesson, contributors may benefit from exploring script writing and messaging best practices, which directly affect the quality of both human and AI voiceover recordings. Understanding the broader Studio upload and submission workflow is also useful context for knowing where voiceover files fit within a complete project. Additionally, reviewing editing basics will help you understand how your voiceover track is integrated with footage during post-production.
