As the world collectively recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, the safety measures and consumer attitudes toward health and safety are likely to stick around well into the “new normal” and beyond.

Micromobility solutions will continue to play a key role in that recovery and in the future of mobility, so providing peace of mind regarding their safety and cleanliness is paramount.

Segway takes pride in being the world’s leader in micromobility solutions, and that means we shoulder the responsibility of providing fleet operators and riders with solutions designed to make e-scooters safer for all involved.

Introducing Antibacterial Grips for E-Scooters

To that end, Segway has worked to leverage antibacterial technology in creating an antibacterial grip for our e-scooters.

Research has shown that zinc oxide nanoparticles are effective in antibacterial materials, as they enhance intracellular bacterial killing and help engineer a cleaner surface.

That’s why we’ve developed an antibacterial grip that benefits from the antibacterial properties of zinc oxide.

Our antibacterial grip has been tested by SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services, and the results reinforced our grip’s antibacterial nature.

The testing found that the grip material’s antibacterial rate of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus reaches 99.9%. That means the material can effectively reduce surface transmission of bacteria and viruses.

Making Antibacterial Grips a Part of a Holistic Safety Plan

These antibacterial grips are ready to become a part of a comprehensive plan to help keep both fleet operators and riders safe when using e-scooters and micromobility solutions.

They complement strategies like the provision of gloves for riders, disinfection and cleaning of individual e-scooters after each use, encouragement of mask wearing while riding an e-scooter, and the use of other protective equipment that can round out a safety plan, such as helmets.
