Winter weather presents dangerous challenges for those towing trailers – but there are steps you can take to keep yourself and your cargo safe.

First, if you expect snow and ice, outfit your trailer with winter tires. It’s worth the investment, and you’ll have much greater confidence in your control over your load, no matter how heavy.

Trailer brakes also work wonders in winter conditions, working to distribute braking force between your vehicle and the trailer to eliminate sliding.

In terms of operating your vehicle, it pays to be as smooth and measured as possible with every move, remain alert, and maintain momentum when possible, particularly on inclines or where snow has piled up.

Finally, don’t use cruise control, as it severely inhibits how in touch you can be with your vehicle.

[Suspension enhancement systems](https://timbren.com/p-35851-timbren-ses.html) like those offered by SES solutions provider [Timbren](https://timbren.com/) can also help, both with general towing performance and in preventing sagging and squatting for trucks equipped with snowplows in wintry weather.
