> TNT Sports opened Year 2 of regular-season college hoops with REMI as the default. Arena connectivity and truck availability decide the rest.

## Key points

- Remote production is TNT Sports' default for most of its 82 college basketball games, and each arena's connectivity plus the availability of trucks and REMI kit decide which games get a different approach.
- For venues hosting BIG EAST and Big 12 games on TNT, the building's outbound connectivity is part of what decides whether a full mobile unit shows up.
- Year 2 changes are incremental: a typical game still runs six primary cameras plus five POVs, and the one new piece of audio is a wired boom mic aimed at timeout huddles.

TNT Sports opened its second full college basketball regular season on Nov. 2 in Las Vegas with a Hall of Fame Series doubleheader: Purdue against Gonzaga, then UCLA against Arizona. Sports Video Group's Brandon Costa reported that most of the network's 82 games on TNT, truTV and HBO Max will be produced through REMI workflows and presented in 1080p HDR.

So remote production is the default. The detail that matters more to anyone who builds a broadcast calendar is how the exceptions get picked. TNT Sports makes that call game by game, based on whether mobile units and REMI equipment are free and whether the arena's connectivity can carry the show.

## How a game ends up remote

Chris Brown, TNT Sports' vice president of technology and operations, framed the season as a continuation. "We are very excited to be heading into Year 2 of this relationship," he told Sports Video Group. He said Year 2 is a chance to take what the team learned in its first regular season and apply it, with the aim of making each season better for viewers and for the production crews.

The plan he described puts REMI at the center. It means using centralized production resources rather than sending a traditional onsite production operation to every game.

The plan is deliberately loose at the edges. Mobile production facilities from both NEP and Live Media Group will work the season, and each event gets whatever resources fit its requirements and logistics. In practice that turns the production plan into a scheduling exercise: one pool of REMI kit, two truck vendors and a different building almost every night.

Block Field

TNT Sports' default for 82 college games is remote production, and the exceptions get decided by what each arena's network and the truck calendar allow. For venues hosting BIG EAST and Big 12 games on TNT, that makes the building's outbound connection part of what decides whether a full mobile unit pulls up to the loading dock or a smaller remote package does the job.

Someone has to manage all those moving parts. On the operations side, Caz Grabowski and Taylor Elwood work as production managers, Mark Hershner and Travis Cabellero handle technical operations as managers, and Joyce Atkinson serves as senior crewing manager. Together they line up the trucks, REMI resources, crews and technical needs for a schedule that shifts from arena to arena around the country.

## Six cameras, five POVs and a huddle mic

The typical game package is modest by marquee-event standards, and it's spelled out precisely. Sports Video Group, which flagged "a few new wrinkles in the camera and audio complements," laid out the standard complement:

- Three hard cameras covering the game, tight and slash angles
- Two handhelds working opposite sides of the court
- One super-slow-motion camera at midcourt or a secondary slash position
- Five Marshall or Proton POV cameras placed around the court
- Long-range 95X, 111X and 122X lenses, plus 20X5 and 22X-24X options

On audio, the sideline reporter works with a wireless mic and an IFB system. This season adds a wired boom microphone, which is meant to pick up what gets said in team huddles when play stops for a timeout. Viewers get closer to the conversations that happen around a game's key moments. The outlet called it another storytelling opportunity, and it is the one audio change on the list.

As with its other major sports properties, TNT Sports plans to present its college basketball coverage in 1080p HDR, keeping a consistent technical standard across its growing portfolio of live productions, according to Sports Video Group. A shared standard suggests college games could run through the same pipeline as the rest of the portfolio. That would matter if one centralized operation is handling many of those games on the same nights.

## Atlanta does the talking

The studio side is centralized too. TNT Sports' Techwood studios in Atlanta will handle most pregame, halftime and postgame coverage. Opening night paired Adam Lefkoe with Bruce Pearl, Jalen Rose and Jamal Mashburn, while Brian Anderson and Grant Hill called the Las Vegas doubleheader and Allie LaForce reported courtside. Former North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis joins as a regular contributor, starting Thursday during a BIG EAST and Big 12 tripleheader on truTV and HBO Max.

Last season's shows give a feel for how that split plays on air. In a January pregame segment TNT Sports posted for Georgetown at DePaul, Tim Doyle, Seth Davis, Dennis Scott and Jamal Mashburn worked the studio desk while Andy Katz reported from the arena in Chicago, passing along Georgetown's plan for a player returning from a medical absence. The desk handled the analysis. The news from the building came from one reporter on site, which suggests the centralized studio model doesn't cost the broadcast its arena-level reporting.

Here the plan tests its own default. Selected tournaments before Thanksgiving will get some onsite studio presence. And the decision to keep trucks from two vendors in rotation shows that remote production covers most games, not all of them. Remote is the starting assumption. Where a venue's connectivity or the equipment calendar won't support it, the plan falls back to a truck.

## One slice of a joint CBS-TNT schedule

The season runs from Nov. 2 through the national championship on April 5. CBS has a 35-game schedule, and TNT Sports' 82 games break down into 67 men's games, with 50 from the BIG EAST and 15 from the Big 12, plus seven UConn women's games.

Those 82 games sit inside a combined 465-game schedule that CBS Sports and TNT Sports released on Oct. 26. It includes 390 regular-season and conference tournament games across CBS, CBS Sports Network, TNT and truTV, featuring teams from 27 conferences. TNT's share works out to roughly a fifth of those 390. Games on TNT Sports networks stream live on HBO Max, while regular-season games on CBS stream on Paramount+.

The star power is concentrated, and a good share of it lands on TNT. Across the two companies' networks, teams from the men's AP Top 25 preseason poll appear 71 times in the regular season. Gonzaga, ranked No. 15, leads the way with 10 appearances. Fourth-ranked UConn follows with nine, then 13th-ranked St. John's with eight, fifth-ranked Arizona with seven and sixth-ranked Michigan State with six. All four teams from the 2026 Men's Final Four are scheduled for 24 appearances combined.

Sports Video Group counts nine UConn men's games and eight St. John's appearances on TNT's schedule alone. Set against the joint totals, that suggests every regular-season appearance for those two BIG EAST programs in the combined package runs through TNT Sports.

The women's slate on TNT is small but pointed. TNT and truTV carry the seven UConn women's games as the No. 2 Huskies chase a 13th national championship. CBS Sports Network, for comparison, has a network-record 39 women's games.

## From neutral sites to campus arenas

That mix is still fairly new territory for TNT Sports. Sports Video Group points out that the network has been a home to March Madness for more than 15 years, yet this is only its second full season of regular-season coverage.

Wikipedia's entry on College Basketball on TNT Sports notes that outside the NCAA tournament, which Turner and CBS Sports have co-produced under a 2010 agreement since extended through 2032, TNT's regular-season coverage was mostly neutral-site showcase events, such as the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic and later the Acrisure Series and Players Era Festival. Conference packages arrived in the mid-2020s, when TNT Sports acquired regular-season conference rights for the first time: a share of BIG EAST rights and a package of Big 12 games sublicensed from ESPN.

Tournament weeks and showcase events are concentrated. A conference package means campus arenas, week after week, each with its own building and its own network. That contrast could explain why Brown frames Year 2 around lessons learned: the first season was the network's first full run at a schedule shaped like this one.

The calendar fills quickly. Michigan and UConn meet Friday, Nov. 6 on TNT from Boston's TD Garden in a rematch of the 2026 men's national championship game. UConn and St. John's meet March 2. The Selection Show airs March 14 on CBS, and then the regular season gives way to the tournament TNT Sports co-produces with CBS Sports, which ends with the Final Four in April. Until then, the thing to watch is the venue list: which arenas get a truck instead of a REMI kit, and whether that list is shorter by the time Year 3 starts.
