# Meta acquires Conductor, the startup that runs several AI coding agents at once

Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup whose software lets engineers run several AI coding agents at the same time, InfoWorld and PYMNTS reported on November 4. Conductor announced the move and did not disclose financial terms, according to InfoWorld.

Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz said in a post on X that the team will work with Nat Friedman and Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang at Meta Superintelligence Labs, PYMNTS reported. "We have some big, crazy plans for the next interface," Holtz wrote. Conductor plans to introduce that new interface in early 2027, according to InfoWorld.

## What Conductor does

Launched in July 2025, Conductor gives developers one place to run multiple AI coding agents in parallel. It supports tools including Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex, so engineers can hand different tasks to agents working on separate copies of a codebase and review the results before merging, according to InfoWorld.

Omdia chief analyst Lian Jye Su told InfoWorld that Conductor's most important differentiator is that it "sits above individual coding agents," and that he expects Meta to keep a model-agnostic approach. Pareekh Jain of Pareekh Consulting said Meta may pursue a hybrid strategy, supporting third-party models while integrating its own more closely.

## Why it matters for engineering teams

InfoWorld framed the deal as part of a broader shift in AI coding toward multi-agent development. Su said the enterprise move toward running agents in parallel could give Meta an opening to provide the infrastructure that supports those deployments in corporate environments, and Jain said parallel agents could speed up software releases and lower development costs.

The analysts also named what enterprises will need to manage. Su called human review before merging an important control point and said more agent-to-agent communication increases the potential attack surface. Jain said Meta still needs enterprise-grade security, governance and integration capabilities to challenge established players such as Microsoft's GitHub, OpenAI and Anthropic, calling the deal "a small step, not a game-changer."

PYMNTS noted that AI coding has changed the economics of software creation by lowering the cost of production and increasing iteration speed, and that Uber used up its full 2026 AI budget in four months after encouraging engineers to adopt agentic coding tools without usage limits.

## What current Conductor users need to do

Conductor has stopped accepting new users. Its cloud service becomes read-only on November 13 and shuts down on November 20, when cloud user data will be deleted. Customers can move cloud workspaces to the local application or export their data before then, according to InfoWorld.

The local version will keep receiving new AI models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when it will begin winding down. Meta has not said whether the new interface will support the third-party coding tools Conductor works with today, InfoWorld reported.
