> Salesforce’s Dreamforce 2026 agenda is landing as Claudeforce heads to open beta in September, forcing new decisions on identity, permissions, and token spend.

## Key points

- Dreamforce 2026 includes the introduction of Claudeforce, which is set for open beta release.
- CIOs will need to make decisions regarding identity management, permissions, and token usage.
- Claudeforce's integration prompts considerations surrounding token spend and usage.

Dreamforce 2026 is still weeks away, but Salesforce has already telegraphed the operational theme: “the Agentic Enterprise,” with three days of keynotes, training, and product launches scheduled for Sept. 15, 17 in San Francisco and on Salesforce+, according to the event site.

That messaging is landing at the same moment Salesforce and Anthropic are turning a year of developer experimentation into a product. On Aug. 26, CIO reported that the companies expanded their partnership to deliver Claudeforce, a set of integrations intended to let Claude operate with Salesforce data, workflows, business logic and governance.

For CIOs and operations leaders, this is less about which large language model wins the chatbot race and more about a workflow change that will hit budgets and controls. If work moves from the Salesforce UI into an agent interface, the systems of record stay the same, but the “front door” moves, along with authentication patterns, audit trails and usage metering.

## Claudeforce turns agent experiments into an enterprise integration

CIO’s Thor Olavsrud reported that Salesforce leaders have been pushing customers to use Salesforce through agentic interfaces rather than the browser UI. The article traces the momentum back to Salesforce’s TDX 2026 developer conference, where the company introduced “Headless 360,” an API-driven layer designed so AI clients can read and write Salesforce data without the classic user interface.

Developers immediately started wiring their own agents into Salesforce, according to Salesforce’s Patrick Stokes in CIO’s coverage, then ran into the same question every platform team eventually gets: how to scale a clever prototype to hundreds or thousands of users while preserving permissions, managed authentication and governance.

Claudeforce is Salesforce and Anthropic’s attempt to make that scaling problem a product feature. The first release is a “Salesforce in Claude” plugin with 37 prebuilt sales skills, CIO reported. The skills are aimed at common seller tasks such as reasoning over live revenue context, updating pipeline records and taking governed actions from within Claude.

> Agent-first CRM changes the hard work: it’s identity, permissions, and metering, not prompts.

## Slack becomes a delivery channel, and governance becomes the differentiator

CIO also reported that Salesforce is embedding Claude directly into Slack, with Claude positioned as the default model for Slack features including Slackbot, “Claude Tag,” and “Slack Code.” That matters operationally because Slack is already a system of work for many frontline and back-office teams, meaning CRM updates and approvals could increasingly happen in chat, not in a CRM tab.

When action-taking moves into collaboration tools, governance stops being a Salesforce admin concern and becomes a cross-platform control plane problem. Teams will need to be explicit about which actions an agent can take, under which identity, and how approvals and logs are captured when the “operator” is an agent session.

This is also where AI spend becomes real. Stokes flagged token consumption as something customers will need to evaluate, CIO reported, noting that usage is “not zero” even if it is below development-heavy use cases. That statement is a procurement trigger, because token metering, caps, and internal chargeback are typically missing from CRM program governance.

## Why retail and supply chain teams are watching this pattern

Retail CIOs have been framing AI for 2026 around very practical outcomes: meeting customers across digital touchpoints and driving efficiency, including in the supply chain, according to InformationWeek’s conference coverage from NRF Retail’s Big Show. The Salesforce, Anthropic partnership is a concrete example of how those ambitions get implemented, by connecting AI interfaces to systems that can actually take actions.

A useful lens comes from academic work on “large action models,” which emphasizes that the value of conversational systems depends on real-time data access and action execution, not just language generation. A 2025 open-access paper in Business & Information Systems Engineering (Springer) uses a Dreamforce demo as an example of how AI agents deliver outcomes by triggering workflow actions based on live order and inventory data.

Put those two threads together and the operator takeaway is clear: the enterprise pattern is shifting from “AI that explains” to “AI that does.” If that is true in CRM and service, it will show up in retail operations anywhere there is structured data, well-defined business logic, and permissioned actions, pricing changes, order modifications, substitutions, and customer communications.

> The new test for ‘AI in the enterprise’ is whether it can take a governed action in a system of record.

## Where this lands in 2026 rollout plans

Salesforce’s Dreamforce site pitches AI-powered agenda recommendations and heavy hands-on training, which signals that Salesforce expects teams to treat agent workflows as something to skill up on, not just to pilot. CIO reported that “Salesforce in Claude” is available to some pilot customers now, with an open beta expected in September, and that additional prebuilt skills are planned starting in the third quarter.

That timeline matters for teams that write annual plans in the fall. An open beta in September lands directly in the window when many enterprises lock budgets, finalize identity roadmaps and choose which AI projects graduate from sandbox to production.

### Questions to put in your Salesforce and Slack specs before pilots scale

- Identity and permissions: Which identity does Claude use for read and write actions, and how are user-level permissions enforced when actions originate in Claude or Slack, per the scaling challenges described by Salesforce executives in CIO’s reporting?
- Auditability: What event logs are produced for agent-triggered actions, where do they land, and how will they be correlated across Salesforce, Slack, and any MCP or API layers used by internal tools?
- Token and cost controls: What metering is available at user, team, and workflow level, and can token budgets or caps be enforced in the same way as API limits, reflecting Salesforce’s caution in CIO about non-zero token consumption?
- Packaged skills vs. custom tools: How much of the initial use case fits into the 37 prebuilt sales skills CIO reported, and what will require custom skills, approvals, and test coverage before broader enablement?
