## Key points

- CDK is betting a CDP that ships inside the dealer platform shifts the “customer 360” problem from data ingestion to adoption where advisors and sales reps already work.
- CDK’s promise of benchmarks and metrics (lease loyalty, months between repair orders) makes CDP value easier to verify, if dealers align definitions and data-quality rules first.
- For groups planning Open API integrations, if the CDP becomes where identity is resolved, integration specs shift from “move data” to policy work: match rules, householding, and record permissions.

CDK is betting that the dealership “customer 360” problem won’t be solved by adding another box to the stack. It’ll be solved by putting identity resolution and usable customer context directly where advisors and sales reps already work.

Ahead of NADA Show 2026 in Las Vegas (Feb. 3, 6), CDK announced a Built-In Customer Data Platform (CDP) embedded inside its CDK Dealership Xperience (DXP) platform, according to a Jan. 22 release from CDK. Five days later, Business Wire reported the CDP would be featured as part of a wider NADA presentation that also includes AI-driven features and expanded Open API integrations across DXP.

For dealership operators, the practical change is this: CDP capabilities are moving from “marketing tech project” to “workflow layer,” with data quality, duplication rules, and metric definitions becoming day-to-day operating decisions, not quarterly IT cleanups.

## The move: CDP inside DXP, not next to it

CDK’s Jan. 22 announcement frames the built-in CDP as a response to fragmented customer data spread across CRM, DMS, service, parts, and third-party systems. The company says those silos create missed revenue opportunities and inefficient marketing spend, a familiar complaint for dealer groups that have accumulated point solutions over time.

The product design choice is the operational hook. CDK says the Built-In CDP is embedded directly into DXP, which CDK describes as including Foundations, Modern Retail, Fixed Operations, and Intelligence. CDK’s pitch is that dealers can work with “clean, trusted customer data” without adding new systems, new logins, or extra operational complexity.

Business Wire’s Jan. 27 coverage reinforces that positioning, describing CDK’s NADA 2026 booth as centered on a newer technology platform powered by what CDK calls automotive retail’s largest dataset. It also points to a bundle effect: the CDP is presented alongside AI Summary features for CRM and Service, an “agentic” AI virtual assistant called AIVA for DXP, and expanded Open APIs.

> A CDP is only “dealer-ready” when the service lane can use it without changing the lane.

## What CDK says the CDP actually does, and where it lands operationally

In CDK’s description, the Built-In CDP collects and unifies data from multiple dealership sources into a single customer profile accessible in existing workflows. The company highlights unified customer and household views, record-management tools to reduce duplicates and prevent future duplication, and AI-generated summaries intended to give staff at-a-glance context.

For dealership operators, the key detail is CDK’s focus on metrics they can track and act on. CDK says the platform can surface sales measures such as lease loyalty, customers who remain active after their deal term, and maturities for end-of-term lease and finance terms, along with service benchmarks like months between repair orders (ROs), warranty-pay, and the count of service-only customers.

That list is a built-in acceptance test. If a dealer group can’t reconcile those measures across rooftops today, a CDP implementation is going to surface the same argument in a new interface: what counts as a household, how to assign a vehicle to a customer when records disagree, and which system wins when the CRM and DMS don’t match.

## Open APIs and “largest dataset” claims raise a governance question

Business Wire reported that CDK is expanding integration options, using Open APIs to connect Dealership Operations, Modern Retail, Fixed Operations, and Intelligence. For groups tying together CRM, desking, equity mining, marketing automation, and service scheduling tools, Open APIs matter less for simple links and more for deciding where “truth” resides.

When the CDP becomes the place a dealership resolves identity and deduplicates records, integrations stop being simple ETL work. They become policy work: match rules, consent and preference handling, and how downstream tools are allowed to create or modify records. CDK’s Jan. 22 release explicitly positions its CDP as a way to reduce manual data management and outdated lead information, which implies a stronger central role for the unified profile.

CDK also says it will offer an Enterprise Customer Data Platform that brings together CDK-enriched data with data that is dealer-owned and sourced from third parties, enabling advanced segmentation, marketing automation, and more detailed behavioral analytics. That roadmap is most relevant for larger groups with existing data warehouses or customer analytics teams that are weighing whether an “enterprise CDP” belongs inside the dealership platform or as a layer above it.

> The CDP fight in 2026 isn’t ingestion. It’s which system gets to name the customer.

## Where this lands in 2026 dealer tech planning

CDK is formally introducing the Built-In CDP at NADA Show 2026 and said it will demo the product at CDK booths #3701W and #3600W, per the company’s Jan. 22 announcement. Business Wire’s Jan. 27 report positions the CDP as part of a broader technology platform push, with AI summary features and an AI virtual assistant also in view.

For operations leaders, the near-term decision is less about whether CDPs are useful and more about whether the built-in model changes adoption economics. If the CDP sits inside DXP workflows, the value shows up first in basic execution: fewer duplicate records, cleaner householding, and more consistent follow-up timing when customers hit lease and finance maturities. If those fundamentals don’t improve, “advanced segmentation” won’t save the project.

### Questions for dealer groups evaluating CDK’s built-in CDP at NADA

- In DXP, which system is authoritative for identity when CRM, DMS, and service histories conflict, and can that precedence be configured per rooftop or OEM brand?
- What are the default duplicate, householding, and vehicle-to-customer match rules, and how does CDK track the impact of rule changes on KPIs like lease loyalty and months between ROs?
- For Open API integrations, does the CDP expose a stable customer and household ID that downstream tools must use, and what happens when an external system creates a “new customer”?
- If adopting the future Enterprise CDP, what data stays dealer-owned versus CDK-enriched, and how are third-party data rights and activation permissions enforced across marketing tools?
