> Liquor store POS and payments platform Santé raised $15M to build AI agents that drive sales for nearly 1,000 stores.

## Key points

- Santé earns from payment processing built into its platform, so its income rises with store sales, and its next AI agents are aimed at moving slow inventory and re-engaging lapsed customers.
- Santé says 25% of a liquor store's goods take more than 12 months to turn a profit. That is the stock its merchandising agent is built to price and promote.
- The sharper question for any liquor POS demo: which agent actions post automatically, like invoice-driven cost updates, and which wait for an owner's approval, like price cuts on slow movers.

For an independent store owner, the useful question is what the money buys. Fike's answer in the release is a change of job for the software. Santé spent its first year clearing out back-office chores. The next phase is a system that drives sales, brings back lapsed customers and adds to store profit.

## A vendor that gets paid when bottles sell

The business model explains that pivot. According to AlleyWatch, Santé also earns revenue from payment processing and accounts payable tools built into the platform, beyond the software itself, so its income rises with the sales of the stores it serves. Axios simply calls it a software and payments provider.

Santé earns more when its stores sell more, so the $15 million is going toward agents built to move bottles off the shelf. A pure subscription vendor gets paid the same whether a store has a good month or a slow one. A payments-linked vendor only grows if its customers' checkout volume grows.

Santé is working from a base of nearly 1,000 locations that process $2 billion in annual GMV. Every point of sales growth the agents can produce in those stores could add up across the network, and so could the processing revenue that comes with it.

The release argues that Santé pairs AI back-office workflows with payments built into the platform, so store owners get a system meant to widen margins and help them operate at larger scale. Santé also earns revenue from payment processing built into the platform, so its income rises with the sales of the stores it serves.

## What the agents handle on the shop floor

Santé's pitch starts from the problems of the category. A single liquor store can carry thousands of SKUs, from vintage wine to returnable kegs, and each state sets its own rules on taxes, deposits and shipping. AlleyWatch notes that point-of-sale software built for restaurants and general retail was never designed for any of that.

The platform pools data from in-store checkout, e-commerce, delivery apps, marketing and customer subscriptions, and Santé's agents work from that pool. The release lists the components:

- AI merchandising agent: suggests pricing and promotions for slow-moving stock based on each store's item-level sales
- AI invoice receiving: scans distributor invoices and updates inventory levels and unit costs in minutes
- Marketing agent: segments customers by purchase history for targeted email and SMS campaigns
- E-commerce cataloging: generates SEO-optimized descriptions and images across thousands of wine, beer and spirits SKUs
- Delivery integrations: pulls DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and Instacart orders directly into the POS
- Employee scheduling agent: staffs each role from store-level sales patterns by day of week
- Liquor-specific logic: bottle and keg tracking, vintage management and mix-and-match case discounts

The descriptions also show two levels of autonomy. According to the release, the invoice tool scans distributor invoices and automatically updates inventory levels and unit costs. The merchandising agent, as AlleyWatch and the release describe it, suggests prices and promotions. Owners deciding how far to trust the system will care about that difference more than the word "autonomous" in the headline.

Block Field

## Reading Santé's own scorecard

Fike's blog post announcing the round includes a set of performance figures. All of them come from the company, and they sit naturally side by side:

Block Field

The last two figures matter most to an owner weighing a switch. The growth story also comes in two versions: the release cites 500% growth over the past year, while Fike's post says Santé grew fivefold in 2025 and has done it again in 2026 with three months left.

There is a fair objection to the sales-engine pitch. Most of the year of evidence Fike points to concerns back-office relief: invoices, receiving, ordering, migration speed. The revenue-driving agents are what the release says Santé is now introducing, and what the new capital is meant to build. The cost-cutting half of the platform has a track record behind it. The half that is supposed to grow sales mostly has a plan.

## The test for the sales agents

Fike wrote that the money will go toward building out the team. The release adds that the next phase is aimed at proactively driving sales and re-engaging lapsed customers, which puts the merchandising and marketing agents at the center of the round.

The figure that would confirm the thesis is already in Santé's own materials: the quarter of inventory that takes a year or more to earn back its cost. If store owners see that stock turning faster under the merchandising agent's suggestions, the payments model and the AI pitch reinforce each other, because faster sell-through means more checkout volume for Santé too. If the agents mostly save hours, Santé is still a strong back-office tool. It just hasn't become the sales engine its investors are funding.
