> Amazon is rolling out text-message access to Alexa for Shopping, its AI shopping agent, so customers can search, compare, buy and track prices from their messages app.

## Key points

- Texting with Alexa for Shopping rolls out to a small group of U.S. customers by invitation, expanding to millions in the coming weeks
- The agent can reorder items, set up weekly grocery orders, watch for price drops, show up to a year of price history, and send new-release alerts
- Requests started over text carry over to the Amazon Shopping app, Amazon.com, and Alexa-enabled devices

Amazon now lets shoppers text Alexa for Shopping, its AI shopping agent, to place orders and track prices. The company said on November 6 that texting starts rolling out to a small group of U.S. customers by invitation only and will reach millions more customers in the coming weeks. Customers accept the terms, link a phone number, and the agent shows up in their contacts as Alexa Shopping.

Amazon said more than 400 million customers have used Alexa for Shopping in the last 12 months, and the number using its agentic features has grown more than eight times since the start of the year.

## What the agent can do over text

According to Amazon, customers can text a request and the agent will add items to the cart and complete the purchase with their approval. It can reorder items, set up a weekly grocery order, watch for a price drop on a specific product, show up to a year of price history, and send alerts when a brand releases something new. Shoppers can also text to check on an order.

TechCrunch reported that users can also manage lists, search for items across the web, compare products and share photos to find similar listings, and that Alexa will learn preferences over time. Amazon said requests started over text will carry over to the Amazon Shopping app, Amazon.com and Alexa-enabled devices, and the other way around.

## Agents move into the messages app

TechCrunch framed the launch as Amazon joining a wider move toward texting with AI agents such as Muse and Instinct. It noted the launch comes after Amazon blocked Meta's Muse agent from querying its site in September.

## What brands and sellers can watch

For brands and marketplace sellers, the launch puts more of the buying decision inside a conversation run by Amazon's agent. The signals to watch are how fast texting reaches the wider U.S. audience Amazon has promised, how price-drop and new-release alerts affect demand timing, and how product listings perform when an agent, not a shopper, is doing the searching and comparing.
