> The Marketing AI SparkCast brings you the April 2026 Marketing AI Pulse Brief, with host Aby Varma of Spark Novus and co-host Matt Cyr of Loop AI. They unpack the new wave of AI creative tools, agents as customers, the brand push toward "real," and how brands win visibility inside AI answers, organic and paid.

## Key points

- AI creative tools add a conversational front end to martech
- Brands must adapt strategies to reach agentic customers and ensure visibility in AI answer environments
- Brands are leaning on “real” as AI spreads in ads

The Marketing AI SparkCast brings you the Marketing AI Pulse Monthly Brief, a curated look at the most relevant stories shaping the field and what they mean for CMOs and marketing leaders. In the April 2026 edition, host Aby Varma of Spark Novus and co-host Matt Cyr of Loop AI work through a crowded month: a wave of AI-powered creative tools, agents acting as customers, a brand push toward "real," and the race for visibility inside AI answers, both organic and paid.

## The creative martech stack gets a conversational front end

Aby opened the episode with Anthropic's Claude Design, a new product that lets users collaborate with Anthropic's AI on designs, prototypes, slides and one-pagers. He had used it to build a pitch deck and called the result "pretty incredible," while noting some issues exporting into Canva. It works conversationally, he said, much like briefing a designer, and it can take in a company's branding system.

Canva followed with Canva AI 2.0, which Aby described as the company's biggest launch ever, adding conversational design, agentic orchestration and connectors to tools like Slack, Zoom, HubSpot and Gmail. At Adobe Summit in Las Vegas, Adobe announced CX Enterprise, an end-to-end agentic AI system for the customer lifecycle, along with a Firefly AI assistant that orchestrates multistep workflows across Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom and Illustrator from plain-language requests, and Adobe Brand Intelligence, which learns a brand and supports feedback and approvals. The hosts were clear they had not yet tried the Canva and Adobe releases hands-on.

Matt said Claude Cowork recently produced a research-report deck for him that was clean, on brand and tight, a big jump from what these tools could do even six months ago. Aby's advice for CMOs: move brand guidelines out of PDFs and into a structured format these tools can access, match each tool to a job rather than buying all of them, and rethink how ideation, mood boards and prototypes split between in-house teams and agencies.

> The days of agencies being the sole proprietor of creativity or creative ideas is really, I think, in the past. — Matt Cyr, Loop AI, on The Marketing AI SparkCast

Agencies now win, Matt said, by bringing strategic capability, a point of view and cultural understanding to clients who already have these tools in hand.

## Agents as customers and as competition

Matt's segment started from two recent pieces, one from Harvard Business Review and one from Boston Consulting Group, on marketing's changing role when agents drive behavior and findability. Agents are already browsing catalogs, comparing products and initiating purchases without a human touching a screen, he said, with people stepping in for the final decision. He pointed to Salesforce's announcement that week doubling down on autonomous agents, and to early results he cited including three-to-five-times improvements in email click-through rates and lower cost per pipeline among early adopters.

Aby said the topic is on nearly every client's mind, starting with a basic question: is your website agent friendly, so your brand isn't excluded when prospects send agents to scan it alongside competitors? Matt's checklist: audit data infrastructure for agent readiness, from clean APIs to schema markup; follow BCG's point that machine-readable brand signals are the first strategic priority; pick one workflow, such as audience segmentation or paid media optimization, to go fully agentic in the next 90 days; and start tracking share of model, an emerging KPI for how a brand shows up in Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity and other tools.

## Brands are betting on "real"

Matt described a pendulum swing, with advertisers pushing back on AI in their ads and leaning on the word "real." His examples: the Jonas Brothers in an Almond Breeze Super Bowl commercial that poked fun at AI-generated content, Equinox's "question everything but yourself" campaign, and Aerie's pledge, in a campaign with Pamela Anderson, not to use AI-generated people or bodies. Matt said Aerie's Q4 sales jumped 23% year over year. The twist is that these brands aren't anti-AI. Almond Breeze, he noted, used AI tools to make the ads that mocked AI in ads.

Aby said context makes all the difference. Marketing AI Pulse's own interview content is 100% real, he said, with AI used to speed up the editing.

> Synthetic content is not wrong as long as it is used in a way which is true to your brand values. — Aby Varma, Spark Novus, on The Marketing AI SparkCast

He questioned fully synthetic UGC, where the person praising the brand doesn't exist. Matt's advice: define an AI content policy before a campaign forces you to, as Aerie did by setting internal standards before going public, and audit high-trust touch points like product pages, campaign images and testimonials.

## Organic AI visibility: LinkedIn and answer engine optimization

Aby cited Semrush research drawing on 90,000 URLs cited across AI engines, in which LinkedIn emerged as the number two cited domain.

> AI is summarizing LinkedIn content. This really means your brand narrative is being shaped inside of AI before prospects reach your website. — Aby Varma, Spark Novus, on The Marketing AI SparkCast

His advice: treat LinkedIn as a strategic channel rather than just social media, get executives publishing on a consistent cadence, define the core topics you want AI to associate with your brand, favor helpful content over promotion, and plan for rising expectations around video, which he said draws engagement from non-followers.

He then turned to HubSpot's new AEO product, which tracks how a brand appears inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity and recommends ways to improve discovery. It builds on HubSpot's acquisition of AI search startup XFunnel. Citing HubSpot's own research, Aby said organic search traffic for HubSpot customers dropped about 27% year over year, and CEO Yamini Rangan has said the companies that show up in AI answers are the ones winning. He also noted Semrush's LLM visibility capabilities and Adobe's announced intent to acquire Semrush.

His guidance: baseline where your brand stands before spending on optimization, then invest in what LLMs weight, including AI citations, direct answers, FAQ formats, fresh content and third-party mentions, which puts digital PR back in focus. "In this case, you don't control the narrative," he said. "It is controlled by a lot of third party sources."

## Paid AI visibility: ChatGPT ads open up

Matt closed with OpenAI's advertising push. The pilot launched in February crossed $100 million in annualized revenue by late March and expanded internationally, he said. The week of April 7, OpenAI cut the minimum spend from $200,000 to $50,000 and launched a self-serve ad manager, then announced a shift to click-based billing. That moves ChatGPT ads from a large-enterprise channel to one smaller and mid-market brands can test.

Unlike traditional search ads, Matt said, users have already expressed intent through long, conversational queries, so context matching and trust carry the work. Early movers also get to shape the benchmarks.

> The folks that are doing it now are really establishing what good performance looks like. — Matt Cyr, Loop AI, on The Marketing AI SparkCast

His advice: start at a modest spend as a learning budget, and write custom creative briefs just for ChatGPT ads. Aby's last word went to marketers who haven't institutionalized AI yet: make it a horizontal layer across all aspects of marketing.
