The Netherlands may be a country small in area, but it has had a very large impact on the world both in influence and commerce. It may have been hundreds of years ago, but the Dutch were at one point among the strongest and most expansive empires in the world.

In fact, the [Dutch East India Company](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_East_India_Company) was perhaps the first global corporation and laid the foundation for international trade for centuries.

That is not to say that all of Holland’s glory lies in the past. Today, the [Heineken Company](https://www.heinekenusa.com/) is the second-largest brewer in the world and has 115 breweries in 65 countries all over the world.

People may get their fill from [Heineken](https://www.heinekenusa.com/) and automobiles get theirs from another Dutch company: [Shell Global](https://www.shell.com/). The petroleum company employs 86,000 people in more than 70 countries. In terms of 2016 revenue, the company was listed as the sixth largest company of any kind in the entire world.

Safe to say, there is more going on in the Netherlands than tourism.
