> Sales Enablement Shifts From Content Libraries to In-Workflow AI.

## Key points

- By 2029, sales organizations using AI-driven enablement will see 40% faster sales stage velocity than those relying on traditional methods, according to Gartner's April 2026 forecast.
- Sales organizations that build enablement content jointly with marketing and service are 2.4 times more likely to report strong commercial growth, per Gartner's survey of 227 chief sales officers.
- 71% of marketing leaders rate their organization's ability to use first-party customer data as ineffective or underdeveloped, creating a data quality bottleneck for AI enablement performance.

Gartner, in an April 1, 2026 press release, forecast that by 2029, sales organizations using AI-driven enablement functions will see 40% faster sales stage velocity than those relying on traditional enablement methods. The prediction is based on a Gartner survey of 227 chief sales officers conducted in August and September 2025, which found those organizations had completed an average of four transformations in the prior year.

The same Gartner survey reported that sales organizations that build enablement content jointly with functions such as marketing and service are 2.4 times more likely to report strong commercial growth than those that do not coordinate across teams.

## Vendors are embedding buyer experiences into enablement platforms

On Sept. 2, 2026, Demand Gen Report described a new partnership between Kaon Interactive and Showpad intended to place interactive, role-based product storytelling and digital sales rooms directly inside Showpad's platform, rather than as a separate tool sellers must open. Kaon's chief marketing officer, Dana Drissel, said in comments to Demand Gen Report that the goal is to help buying committees explore solutions and build internal confidence throughout a purchase decision.

Demand Gen Report framed the deal as a response to buying groups that increasingly evaluate vendors across departments and asynchronously, often without a seller present for every step.

## AI features split between drafting help and performance coaching

Richard Barkey, founder and CEO of Imparta, wrote in a March 2026 Selling Power column that much of the AI already inside CRM, conversation-intelligence and enablement tools mainly summarizes calls and drafts follow-ups rather than improving how sellers qualify deals, navigate stakeholders or manage risk. Barkey argued that enablement buyers should distinguish tools that speed existing tasks from ones built to change seller behavior and prove it.

Barkey cited an Imparta-commissioned two-year study covering 350 sellers across eight client organizations, which attributed an average validated revenue increase of $143,000 per seller per year to Imparta training and its i-Coach AI tool, for a reported total of $99 million over two years; the column also stated 96% of users said they would recommend the tool. Selling Power's column did not publish the study's full methodology, so the figures should be read as vendor-reported rather than independently audited.

## Sellers still favor human prospecting over AI-written outreach

Demand Gen Report reported on Sept. 1, 2026 that new ValueSelling Associates research found sellers rated cold calling well above AI-written emails, by a margin of roughly 6 to 1, and rated every human-led prospecting tactic above automated alternatives. The research also found 46% of sales leaders said reps give up too easily on cold calls and 39% said reps fear making the calls at all, findings ValueSelling President and CEO Julie Thomas attributed to a skills gap rather than a flaw in the tactic itself.

## Data quality underlies AI enablement performance

In an Aug. 31, 2026 post, Demand Gen Report cited CMO Council findings that 71% of marketing leaders rate their organization's ability to use first-party customer data as ineffective or underdeveloped, and 80% are not yet highly effective at sourcing and integrating third-party data. The same report found that organizations with stronger integration between AI and human review were nearly three times more likely to report measurable ROI from AI initiatives, pointing to how much enablement platforms depend on the CRM and content data feeding them.

## What this means for enablement buyers

Taken together, the recent announcements suggest enablement budgets are shifting focus from content-library size toward measurable in-workflow guidance, embedded buyer experiences, and clean underlying data. Organizations evaluating new platforms may want to ask vendors how guidance ties to CRM opportunity stages, whether interactive buyer tools write data back to CRM records, and how AI-driven coaching claims were measured, since most currently available performance figures come from vendors themselves rather than independent audits.
