## Key points

- COVID-19 has significantly reduced the need for email in favor of digital meetings.
- Video conferencing tools are now integral for maintaining work and social interactions.
- Email may become obsolete as communication shifts to more immediate digital methods.

You know this [COVID-19](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) scourge has quite obviously changed us forever. To still get things done everyone using [Zoom](https://zoom.us/) and [Teams](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software) to continue their work, school, church, scout meetings, family meetings…I call it Life Continuity. But something has emerged I’m not so sure everyone has noticed. I know I have, and so have a number of my colleagues and friends.

My email has all but stopped.

I have begun to realize the only email I am getting anymore is spam and or solicitations. Just like snail mail at home. Most people with whom I interact have figured out if they want to reach me they could send me a Zoom invitation via text and I’m quick to respond with a yes. Or if I want or a ignore I just do.

I guess one of the benefits of learning how to work from home and how we might interact with our teams, or our family, or what have you is there’s far more efficiency in doing it face to face. Heck we all know that we enjoy face to face or we wouldn’t do it when we have the opportunity.

Just something to ponder. Is [COVID-19](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html), if you’ll excuse the phrase, killed email? Its been predicted for years but maybe its time has come. Email has finally met its match and it’s not a computer virus…it’s the coronavirus.
