> Sandpiper Hospitality takes on 12-plus hotels in 90 days, including four brands new to its portfolio from Hilton, Marriott and IHG.

## Key points

- Sandpiper adds Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express flags, widening its owner appeal.
- If the 16-brand count was taken before the additions, the four newcomers would take Sandpiper to 20 brands.

Over the next 90 days, Sandpiper Hospitality, a management company based in Richmond, Virginia, will take on more than a dozen properties. Four of the brands on that list have never been in its portfolio: Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn & Suites and Holiday Inn Express. In an Oct. 19 release, the company said the growth shows particularly strong momentum in the Southwest and Midwest.

## Seven flags from six brand families

Hotel Dive reports that the four new brands come from three parent companies: Hilton's Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn, Marriott International's Fairfield Inn & Suites, and IHG Hotels & Resorts' Holiday Inn Express. The extended-stay additions are Choice Hotels International's WoodSpring Suites, Echo Suites from Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, and Extended Stay America.

Block Field

The release says the wider brand mix shows Sandpiper can support owners across more hotel types as its national platform grows. The wider mix matters most to owners who hold more than one kind of hotel. Take a hypothetical investor with an economy extended-stay property and a Hampton Inn in the same region: until now, Sandpiper's résumé covered only half of that portfolio.

The announcement doesn't say how many of the dozen-plus hotels carry each brand, and it doesn't name markets beyond the two regions. So the size of the non-extended-stay slice is unknown for now.

## The extended-stay base underneath

The About Sandpiper section on a post on the company's news page says it has over 65 hotels open or under management and manages 16 brands in 15 states. The current release's boilerplate gives a higher figure, but its versions don't quite match: the copy on Hospitality Net says over 75 hotels "open or under contract," while the PRWeb version says 75+ hotels "open or under management." It's a small difference, but an owner comparing pipelines should notice it.

Owners handing over a Fairfield or a Holiday Inn Express will want results measured against those brands' own competitors, not against extended-stay averages.

## Most of the growth stays in extended stay

Reading the list as a pivot misses what the release actually says. Most of the additions are extended-stay hotels, and the company calls that segment central to its identity. The Hampton Inns and Holiday Inn Expresses sit alongside the core business without replacing it. The client mix points the same way. Hotel Management's Dennis Nessler reported that the expansion includes new client relationships as well as existing clients adding properties with Sandpiper, so part of the new-brand growth may come from owners who already know the operator.

Jim Darter, Sandpiper's president and CEO, said in the release that the team is focused on delivering "best-in-segment financial results" and returns for clients' investors. With four new brands in the mix, that phrase carries more weight than usual. The release also says the growth should open roles for tenured associates and bring in new team members and leaders. For general managers already at Sandpiper, a wider brand list could mean promotion paths that didn't exist when every property was extended stay.

## The 90-day window and the next head count

The cheapest way to check is the company's own boilerplate. If the 16-brand figure was counted before the additions, the four newcomers would take it to 20, by simple arithmetic. If any of the Southwest or Midwest hotels sit in states Sandpiper doesn't serve yet, the 15-state count would rise as well. If the next release still says 16 brands and 15 states, owners should ask whether those hotels have actually changed hands.
