> Remote is rolling out a purpose-built HRIS worldwide, betting that global hiring needs one data layer for payroll, compliance, devices and reviews.

## Key points

- Remote is trying to become the “system of record” for global employment, not a bolt-on EOR, and that changes how buyers should write HR and payroll integration requirements.
- A global HRIS only pays off if identity, device lifecycle and offboarding are governed like IT operations, because access removal, final pay, and local documents must close together.
- Vendor choice is getting noisier: SHRM’s vendor directory for HCM technology software lists many options, a reminder that consolidation decisions should be driven by data flows and compliance scope, not feature checklists.

Remote is turning its global payroll and employer-of-record business into something HR and IT teams can actually standardize on: a single HR system of record that is designed for cross-border work from the start. The company said this month that Remote HRIS is now available to companies worldwide, alongside a new performance product called Remote Perform, according to Business Wire.

For operators, the headline is less “another HRIS launch” and more “one more stack that wants to own onboarding, payroll, compliance, and offboarding end to end.” That is a consolidation story, and it lands directly on integration roadmaps, access governance, and procurement requirements.

## Remote’s bet: global-first HRIS beats the patchwork model

In its June 2025 announcement, Remote framed Remote HRIS as purpose-built for distributed, multi-country teams rather than retrofitted for international hiring, according to Business Wire. The company pointed to ongoing compliance and operational friction when employee data, payroll, performance, expenses and devices sit in separate tools.

Remote also cited its own Global Workforce Report, saying 71% of employers report recruiting outside their national borders. Remote’s argument is that this level of cross-border hiring makes the “HR stack as a collection of point tools” harder to defend, because teams end up duplicating data and building manual controls to stay compliant.

> The global HRIS decision is turning into an identity-and-integration decision, because payroll, compliance and access controls are collapsing into one workflow.

Remote Perform is part of the same consolidation push. Business Wire reported that traditional performance cycles can take over six weeks in large organizations, and that Perform is designed for flexible review cycles with 360-degree feedback and Slack integrations. For global teams, the operational issue is consistency: review timing, calibration and documentation need to survive time zones and local employment norms.

## The numbers behind the expansion: $300M ARR, 300% payroll growth

Remote’s HRIS rollout is easier to read when placed next to the business it is riding on. In May 2026, Remote said its payroll business grew more than 300% year over year, that it surpassed $300M in annual recurring revenue, and that it became cash-flow positive, according to PR Newswire.

PR Newswire also reported that Remote counts “tens of thousands” of companies using its Global Payroll, Employer of Record and Contractor Management offerings, and that it has 100-plus owned legal entities and regulated payments institutions in key markets, processing billions in payroll annually. Those details matter for enterprise buyers because entity footprint and payments licensing determine what “global payroll” means in practice.

The same PR Newswire release positioned Remote as an infrastructure layer for other platforms, naming Workday, BambooHR and Personio as HR platforms that have chosen Remote to power global employment offerings. That is a signal to CIOs and HRIS owners: Remote is competing both as a direct UI and as a back-end service embedded in other systems.

## Why “HRIS” is now an IT ops project

Remote is explicitly widening the surface area. PR Newswire reported new components aimed at developers and partners, including Remote MCP, described as a way for AI agents to connect to payroll, contracts, compliance data and organizational structure, and Remote Build for implementation support. If an HR stack starts exposing payroll and compliance data to AI agents, governance stops being a policy doc and becomes a permissions architecture.

On the product side, Remote said its Compliance Watchtower tracks regulatory changes and alerts customers, and that its HRIS includes natively integrated payroll with centralized employee data and workflows, according to Business Wire. That combination is powerful, but it also concentrates risk: if onboarding, payroll and compliance controls are centralized, offboarding must be equally deterministic, or gaps become systemic instead of local.

This is where HRIS best practice becomes operational muscle. SHRM’s HR content on HRIS and employee lifecycle management emphasizes using HRIS workflows to standardize onboarding and offboarding steps, and to manage the handoffs that are typically missed when processes live in email and spreadsheets, according to SHRM. The global twist is that “standard” has to accommodate country-by-country document requirements and final-pay rules.

## Procurement reality: SHRM’s HCM software directory lists many vendors, and consolidation is often the only practical way out

The market noise is part of the problem Remote is trying to solve. SHRM’s vendor directory for HCM technology software presents a long list of software providers, underscoring how many options HR and procurement teams may sort through before they even get to implementation details.

Remote’s earlier platform announcement in September 2023 also leaned into consolidation. Business Wire reported at the time that Remote’s Global HR Platform was pitched as a unified way to hire, manage and pay people globally, and said customers could save “tens of thousands of dollars” by consolidating tools and streamlining manual work. In 2026, the more useful procurement question is what you can delete from your stack, and what integration work you can avoid over the next 18 months.

> If a new global HR stack doesn’t let teams retire tools, it’s not consolidation, it’s a larger pile.

## Where this lands in HRIS specs being written now

For companies that only hire in one country, Remote’s HRIS launch may read like feature competition. For organizations hiring across multiple countries, the shift is architectural: the HRIS, payroll engine, and compliance update mechanism increasingly need to behave like one system, with one set of identities and one audit trail.

That has second-order effects. Finance teams will care about payroll cutoffs, reconciliation and reporting consistency. IT will care about SSO, role-based access control, device provisioning and deprovisioning, and data retention. HR will care about onboarding speed, manager workflows and local compliance. A single platform can reduce handoffs, but only if teams agree on the control points and don’t re-create the patchwork inside custom workflows.

## Questions to put in the next RFP for global HR, payroll and compliance

- What systems are considered the source of truth for worker identity, job/compensation changes and termination dates, and how are conflicts resolved between HRIS, payroll and EOR records? Ask vendors to describe the reconciliation process, not just integrations.
- What is the country coverage model: owned entities, partners, or a mix, and where are regulated payments institutions used? PR Newswire reported Remote has 100-plus owned legal entities and regulated payments institutions in key markets, which is a benchmark to compare against.
- How are compliance updates operationalized? Remote’s Compliance Watchtower is positioned as a tracking and alerting mechanism, according to Business Wire. Confirm how alerts become configured rules and who signs off on changes.
- What does offboarding actually automate: access removal, device recovery, final pay timing, document generation, and audit evidence? Use SHRM’s onboarding/offboarding framing to test whether the HRIS reduces handoffs or just digitizes them.
- If AI agents will touch payroll and contract data, what controls exist for permissions, logging, and data minimization? Remote MCP is presented as a way to connect AI agents without API keys or exports, according to PR Newswire. Confirm how that’s governed in practice.
