> Learn why schools with proactive disaster recovery partners respond faster to emergencies and return to normal operations quickly.

## Key points

- Disaster recovery programs are crucial for school operations post-disaster.
- Schools can protect educational infrastructure with effective recovery programs.

For schools and universities, emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time. Whether it's a hurricane, winter storm, burst pipe, or power outage, the ability to recover quickly often depends on the planning that happened long before the event occurred.

## Lessons from major disasters

In this installment of the Industry Soundbite Series, Kacie Chappell reflects on lessons learned from major disasters like Hurricane Harvey and the 2021 winter freeze in North Texas. One trend stood out across both events: organizations that had a proactive disaster recovery partner in place were able to respond faster and return to normal operations more quickly.

> When widespread disasters impact an entire region, restoration resources become limited. Schools that have already established relationships with trusted restoration providers are often better positioned to begin recovery immediately, while others may face delays as contractors prioritize existing customers and available resources.

## Preparation beyond damage response

Preparation isn't just about responding to damage. It also means understanding your facility's critical operations, identifying key decision-makers, and having a clear plan for who to call when an emergency occurs. These proactive conversations help reduce uncertainty and allow facility leaders to focus on protecting students, staff, and their campuses when every minute matters.
